“That evening Joseph of Arimathea came to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. Pilate gave him permission to take it. There was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified, and in the garden was a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid...
Following Jewish burial customs, Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Jesus down from the cross, wrapped him in the cloth with spices, and laid him in the tomb that had been carved out of rock. The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed him. Joesph rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb, and went away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting in front of the tomb.”
~ combined Gospel accounts of Jesus burial
"He was put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison."
~ 1 Peter 3:18-19
"What does 'he ascended' mean except that he also descended into the lower regions of the earth? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe."
~ Ephesians 4:9-10
Jesus suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven…"
~ the Apostles' Creed
The Liminal Spaces Series is a contemplative journey through the Scriptures on the theme of wilderness, growth, and change. It was originally broadcast for the season of Lent, but it can be used at any time of the year.
We invite you into Scripture, reflection, and intentional practices to help you abide in the presence of Jesus and the Word of God, learn by studying the Scriptures, and go with intention to love the world. Each weekday is a 10-12 minute devotional, with the exception of the final four meditations (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday) which are slightly longer.
The Liminal Spaces bibliography can be found on our website.
Scriptures are taken from various translations, the most common being the Common English Bible (CEB), the English Standard Version (ESV), and the New Living Translation (NLT).
