  • Le Salon #4 - Khansa, artist in trance - Part Two
    Oct 23 2022

« Just by existing you are fighting. Just do what you do best and exist because, once you build a community, once you realize a lot of people advocate for what you do, that is influential on its on. That is part of everyone’s individual journey towards making this world a better place. »

In this second part, we had the pleasure of continuing our conversation with the inspiring and enchanting Khansa. Together, we talked about his practice, what it means to be an artist, nurturing your inner child and masculinity. All of that in relation to the music video for his song « Khayef » (I’m scared).

« Khayef » is a rendition of the 1929 song by Mohammad Abdul Wahab. Together with Zahzah, Khansa created a version of this song that is current while still honoring the aura of the original version. The video, directed by Mohammad Sabbah, explores the theme of coming out — but also how, behaviors accepted in children can become an excuse for rejection once the child grows up. The video is highly creative and showcases Khansa’s multiple talents.

We highly encourage you to go watch it !

  • Le Salon #4 - Khansa, artist in trance - Part One
    Oct 16 2022

Tarab: an Arabic word, describing the sensation of ecstasy, or intense emotion an audience can feel in front of an artistic performance.

This is what the performance that closed the 3d edition of the Mawjoudin Queer Film Festival felt like. We are honored to receive the artist who performed this enchantment: Khansa, a Lebanese "art-maker", who does everything from (belly)dancing, singing, music production, acting, and so much more.

In this first part, Khansa kindly sat down with us to have a discussion on his performance at MQFF (if you like Oum Khasloum, voguing, and chains, you're at the right place).

In the second part, we'll deep dive into his background and music work and especially his famous song "Khayef" (2017).
