    In this letter, I ask the following question. Is 15 August a day that deserves to be celebrated by Hindus in India as Independence day? To be able to answer that question, we need answer to another question. What did we gain independence from on August 15, 1947? The immediate response that comes to mind is, from the colonial rule of the British. We secured an ability to make laws for ourselves and an end to being treated as second class people in our own country. So, the question really is, have Hindus in India experienced any of these in the last 74 years? By the end of this letter, I will answer that.

    In this letter from the basement, we go back a year to look at the gruesome lynching of two sadhus and their driver in Palghar District of Maharashtra and examine what message that incident and what happened after that convey to Hindus living in India. On 16th April 2020 hundreds of people armed with sticks, rods and other weapons assembled and brutally lynched to death two sadhus belonging to the Juna Akhada, Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj and Sushil Giri Maharaj. Along with them their driver Nilesh Telgade was also killed. What makes this incident even worse is that it happened as the police simply stood by watching, like spectators. The police didn’t just fail in their duty to protect the sadhus. They in fact handed them over to the blood lusting mob. What happened in Palghar on that day is emblematic of how Hindus have been treated in India since 1947. We have been mobbed from every side by hostile forces. And the Indian state that we had empowered to give us equality and security has not just turned a blind eye but has become an active participant in our discrimination.

    When Manmohan Singh was pretending to be the Prime Minister of India  but Sonia Gandhi was actually taking all decisions, the government  policy was decided not by the cabinet but by Mrs Gandhi's kitchen  cabinet called the NAC, the national advisory council, filled with  leftist activists like Aruna Roy, Yogendra Yadav, Jeane Dreze, Harsh  Mander, etc. After 2014, when that corrupt and inept government got  kicked out, it should have been the end of this activist gang's ability  to dictate our lives. But that was not to be. When they lost government  power, they took over the streets and continued tormenting the country  for denying them power. Since 2014, when Narendra Modi was elected Prime Minister of India,  the country has suffered a constant assault of agitations and riots  orchestrated by the radical Left activists. Leftists resorting to these  kinds of tactics to undermine the outcome of the democratic process is  not at all surprising; that’s what they have been doing in our country  and across the world whenever they lost control over the government.
