  • Over-Policing in Washington DC With Darby Hickey, Senior Policy Counsel at DC Justice Lab
    Nov 19 2025

    DC Justice Lab is Actively Opposing Bills in Congress to repeal the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2021 would have the following effects:

    • Restore the old officer discipline process that allows officers who commit major misconduct to stay at MPD when leaders want to fire them;

    • Remove limits on police engaging in vehicle pursuits, which are dangerous to everyone;

    • Decrease access to body-worn camera footage; • Decrease training and standards for officers;

    • Allow MPD to hire officers who (1) were found by another law enforcement agency to have committed serious misconduct, (2) were terminated or forced to resign for disciplinary reasons, or (3) resigned to avoid disciplinary action or termination;

    • Decrease oversight and accountability by removing residents from the Police Complaints Board and Use of Force Review Board;

    • Remove the requirement that police tell people they don't have to consent to searches;

    • Allow more use of military weapons; and

    • Allow more use of internationally banned chemical weapons, riot gear, and less-lethal projectiles against people exercising first amendment rights.

  • Over-Policing in Baltimore
    Oct 22 2025

    Baltimore Abolition Movement joins Life After the Impact this week, to unpack how private and campus police forces have virtually no accountability measures. As Johns Hopkins pushes to create its own private police force, we’ll explore what that means for a city already struggling with over-policing and community trauma.

    We’ll connect the dots between state sanctioned immunity, rising surveillance, and the ongoing fight for justice in Baltimore. This episode is about education, empowerment, and exposing the systems that allow harm to go unchecked. Tune in live on 10/21 at 9 PM EST
