It’s something of a first for the Listen Like Fans podcast this episode, as we welcome our first husband-and-wife duo. We’re delighted to have INXS uber fans Craig & Lesley Hicks on the show today.

The very epitome of an INXS power couple, Craig & Lesley have travelled far and wide to see the band perform live. Beginning with Kick-era concerts in 1988, through tours in the ’90s, to seeing Jon Stevens in 2000, JD Fortune in 2006, and Ciaran in the final touring years.

Hear Craig & Lesley talk about their favourite ever INXS moment—being invited backstage to join Jon Stevens and the band at a private bar, chatting footy and fishing with Tim, and fielding questions from new frontman Jon himself, asking, “How am I doing?”

As INXS’s touring career drew to a close, we hear Craig & Lesley reflect on the “forgotten” lead singer of INXS—Ciaran Gibbin—and share their thoughts on his style as frontman, including the time Ciaran borrowed and wore Chris’s sunglasses during a gig.

Offering an insight into domestic life, the couple also discuss the challenges of finding space to display their INXS memorabilia—including Kirk’s framed jacket from Rock Star: INXS.

Lesley talks about being front and centre at concerts, keeping an eye on the always-charismatic Michael. This positioning proved fortuitous one night when he inadvertently dropped a bracelet his girlfriend, Helena, had given him. Hoping to keep it as a souvenir, Leslley instead ended up with Michael’s sweat-covered towel—much to the delight of the crowd!

Ever the dedicated INXS fan, Craig recalls queuing overnight to be first through the gates for the Concert for Life—but only if the birth of their child came before the gig. Thankfully, their new arrival came just in time, four days before the concert!

From humble beginnings hanging out at the roller-skating rink as kids, Craig & Lesley have known each other for nearly 40 years and have been married for 30. This match made in INXS heaven shows how a shared love of the band can bring people together—and continues to play a major role in their lives as part of the INXS fan community.

On this week’s episode of Listen Like Fans, Bee is thrilled to welcome David Goffin, co-creator and executive producer of RockStar INXS.

A long-time INXS fan, David takes us right back to the very beginning — including the phone call from legendary producer Mark Burnett about creating a music show “bigger than American Idol.” That idea would become RockStar INXS.

Go behind the scenes as David shares his vision for building a truly global show. From pitching record labels to secure an incredible soundtrack — including artists who had never allowed their music on TV like The Rolling Stones and Nirvana — to crafting something that felt bigger than anything audiences had seen before.

Hear how the worldwide search unfolded, with auditions across 17 cities — from London to Sydney to Toronto — and tens of millions of dollars spent in the quest to find the next frontman for INXS.

David also reflects on working with the band — humble, modest, and initially reluctant judges — alongside host Brooke Burke, who brought balance and control to the stage, and Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction, who added undeniable rock credibility.

Step inside the iconic Paramour Mansion in Los Angeles, where the show came to life — from its gothic atmosphere to the transformation of stables into rehearsal spaces and living quarters for production.

Discover the intensity of the casting process, as the final 50 contestants performed in front of the band and management — each member selecting their favourites before narrowing it down to the final 15.

On this week's episode of Listen Like Fans, Bee is delighted to have Chris MaKay on the show, a longtime INXS fan.

Chris has been fortunate enough to chat with band manager Chris Murphy and, thanks to his job as Chauffeur, talk INXS with Australian TV & Radio presenter Richard Wilkins, Film Director Baz Luhrmann, and a certain Mr Colin Diamond.

Chris talks candidly about a self-imposed gig exile since attending Michael's funeral, and being convinced to see Andrew Farriss perform at one of his recent solo shows. It was here that two worlds would collide when Chris would meet "the blonde woman!" (Bee) for the first time and become fast and firm friends.

He shares an emotional anecdote on meeting Chris Murphy when he shared a simple "thank you", shares his memories on being an eventual convert to seeing the INXS tribute band 'Don't Change", and the healing on hearing the music of INXS performed live has since brought.

The healing process continued when Chris and Bee saw JD Fortune live (complete with a wardrobe malfunction!) and had a conversation with him in which JD was reflective and mature about his time with the band.

Bee and Chris discuss the Rock Hall Nomination and what it means to be an Australian seeing an Australian band get into the Rock Hall, and they discuss plans to travel en masse to the USA to (hopefully!) see the guys get inducted!

We're delighted to have Chris on Listen Like Fans and to share his journey from growing up listening to INXS, missing out on seeing INXS in 1997 and the 25+ year impact that had, to encouraging his children to carry the INXS flame.

On this week's episode of Listen Like Fans, Bee is joined by Sue Dee, a dedicated INXS fan since first seeing INXS perform as support for Adam & the Ants way back when they toured the US together in the Spring of 1983.

Since seeing this chance performance, Sue Dee has followed INXS through multiple tours, album releases and lead frontmen changes. Through thick and thin, Sue Dee has seen it all. Highlights from a career following the band include getting backstage and posing for pictures in a flag dress with Michael, joining Mary Woods's fan club, and connecting with other fans through the INXS pen pal service.

Sue Dee shares some great stories from her years following the band on tour - from sharing bedrooms with Michael (he was a gentleman!), backstage parties, being with the band on the tour bus and getting banned after items of INXS stage clothing went missing! So close was Sue Dee to the band that she was lucky to get an advance listening of Mystify!

Eventually, Sue Dee connected with Bee some 10 years ago via the old Hutch Nation Facebook page. A close friendship formed, and after lots of messages to and fro, they eventually discovered that we were both in attendance at the same gig in 1986 at the Birmingham Odeon.

Sadly, Sue Dee lost some of her treasured INXS collection in a house fire 5 years ago, but her memory of those times spent watching and following INXS still shines bright. We're delighted to have Sue Dee's continued support and to have her share her recollections on Listen Like Fans.

Danyelle has been an adoring fan since she was just 14 years old, carefully collecting fan club letters, memorabilia, and creating scrapbooks filled with treasured INXS memories. She first connected with Bee during the INXS Access All Areas podcast days with Haydn Murdoch, quickly becoming a valued patron and an important part of the team, helping behind the scenes with newsletters and social media.

Andrew also brings a lifetime of fandom to the conversation. Bee, Danyelle, and Andrew first connected online during the creation of the fan book Calling All Nations in 2023 — a project celebrating the global INXS community. Andrew has been collecting rare INXS treasures since the early days and continues the hunt today, all while running a B&B on a remote island off the UK and lending a helping hand behind the scenes whenever needed.

Together, they share stories of fandom, collecting, friendships formed through music, and the incredible passion that keeps the INXS community thriving.
