Ser Soren Vrenik, Lord of Vrenholm, has a dangerous encounter with Cusith, a Trinity warrior named for a green hound believed to be a harbinger of death. Bacanyi returns from a scouting expedition bearing an envelope stamped with the seal of Lord Vrenik. It is an invitation requesting that Arianthe make her debut as a history singer at his court. The question is why and why now? Arianthe asks Bacanyi about his ability to be in one place then suddenly appear in another. She shocks him, wondering if the way he defies time is like the feeling of everywhere-ness she has when singing.
