About this listen
For the third episode, I will be discussing with Professor Alexander Lewis from Brooklyn College about Maurice Ravel's many attempts at trying to win the Prix de Rome Prize. Even though Ravel was an established composer when he applied for the competition, he was still obsessed with winning the prize. This will be a two-part episode with the first discussing how the Prix de Rome was judged, and the second discussing the many controversies surrounding Ravel's entry into the competition.
