  • Read It ‘n Weep: GREMLINS by George Gipe
    Nov 26 2025

a brand new format on the pod ?? dedicated to hasty film-to-book adaptations, ie artless exercises in turning the written word into studio merch?? why, what a NOVEL concept !!

yea that’s right, we can and DO read books - and this nutty, troubling novelisation of the classic Christmas comedy-horror Gremlins is a great place to start.

Noah and Eliza both read George Gipe’s tie-in novel and are horrified to realise the thus-far-untold depths of Mogwai suffering. Are all movie novelisations like this, and why are they like this, and can we find one that stands on its own merits as a work of literary fiction?

Let us know if you’ve read one and we’ll give it a try. as long as there’s a few pages of sick movie stills in the middle.

  • We're Dyin' for Diane Warren, the Unrequited Oscars Queen
    Nov 18 2025

You might not know songwriter Diane Warren, but u for sure know her songs - 'Don't Wanna Miss a Thing'! 'If I Could Turn Back Time'! etc etc ! And you might also know her as the most Oscar-nominated woman in history without a win.

Memed for her schmaltzy one-size-fits-all romantic ballads and perceived desperation to win a stupid lil statue, Diane is actually a goddamn legend and this episode is a deep dive into why.

How much does asexuality and autism influence her insanely prolific discography? What Best Original Song Oscar did she TOTAlly deserve to win ? All this stuff n much more, as we randomly spotlight a showbiz striver who should really get her flowers at this point.

Here we are on ur doorstep this All Hallows Eve, raising our voices to shriek TWICK O TWEAT and accept your sugary, rotten donations: a selection of scary stories, kindly submitted by haunted listeners!!!

Joined around the campfire by head camp counsellor Darcey Eagle, the team read YOUR spooky tales of cries in the night, accursed car maintenance and cats that see dead people. There’s also classic childhood urban legends revisited, plus short but sweet masterpieces from the r/twosentencehorrorstories subreddit.

Have we lost the illicit magic of the oral storytelling tradition? Are there actually any good creepypasta ? And most importantly, who was licking my fingers in the night if it wasn’t Garrett, the escaped madman I keep as a pet?? Seasons Creepings, listeners >:)

Thanks to Areti, Tyler, Nat, “Smedley”, Hersh and Marianna for your screamworthy stories xx

  • Twin Picks: FROGS x SLUGS
    Oct 22 2025

It’s about that time…the time…for SLIME… Comparing two swampy creature features, Noah and Eliza wonder if there are some animals that simply are not scary enough to power a horror movie. Juan Piquer Simon’s 1988 movie SLUGS sics millions of black, writhing, gooey gastropods on a small town of hilariously hateful and rude characters, resulting in some gnarly SFX moments and sexual subtext. But 1972’s FROGS doesn’t have nearly enough critters!! It’s got Sam Elliott and an interesting bayou mansion setting, but not enough actual webbed-hands-around-throats action :(

Which film is the scariest and the squishiest? Do these movies actually make us care more about the environment or just wanna stomp it to death? How did Noah overcome his childhood leech fear ? All good questions but u won’t get answers today, we’re talking about other frog and slug stuff you couldn’t possibly comprehend. U can listen in and try though. ribbit.

    SHOW NOTES:

    TRIPLET IN THE ATTIC:

    • Noah’s critter movie recommendations: The Bay , Long Weekend, Tremors

  • Midnight Marathon: CURE x CLOUD// Kiyoshi Kurosawa Part 1 feat. Tyler Bain !!
    Sep 29 2025

We are HYPNOTISED, HAUNTED and HACK’D by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, whose unsettling Japanese thrillers are finally getting the Midnight Marathon treatment. Best of all - filmmaker, Kurosawa megafan and good buddy TYLER BAIN (@tyler.internet) is riding shotgun with us in the cloud-shrouded nightmare bus to hell! weeeeee

We start with Kurosawa’s 1997 breakout CURE, a disorienting detective story with a stunning final shot and enough atmospheric scares to inspire the then-budding J-Horror movement. Then, as recently as last year, the director weaponised sinister internet communities to comment on societal sickness, in the darkly comic thriller CLOUD. Everybody needs an assistant Sano in their life.

  • Twin Picks: FESTEN x JULIEN DONKEY BOY x TRASH HUMPER ?? feat. Underground Film Collective !!
    Sep 10 2025

Who let the dogme out ?? Our fingers are aimed squarely at returning pals PARKER AND FLYNN of Sydney’s @underground.film.collective !! they let the dogme out !!

Inspired by Lars von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg’s ‘Vows of Chastity’ and how they can inform rawer, truer, more POWERFUL cinema, we get into the first (and probably best??) movie made in accordance with the Dogme 95 manifesto: Vinterberg’s dark, funny and provocative family reunion drama FESTEN/THE CELEBRATION.

No script, lighting, non-diegetic music, ‘superficial action’ allowed !! Real shit only !!! Remembering David Stratton !!! Discussing the crabs-in-a-bucket phenomenon! Incredible conversational segues ! And ya maybe everybody didn’t watch second pick JULIEN DONKEYBOY, Harmony Korine’s crack at Dogme glory, but isn’t that so profoundly Dogme yknow ? Let the chaos wash over you like your seventh red wine at a disastrous family event…

  • Now Screaming: WEAPONS x EDDINGTON
    Aug 23 2025

Nice day for a white Weddington - i now pronounce u to be two fucked up, distressing, long and entertaining movies !! Noah has been destructively hyped for Zach Creggers’ sophomore feature WEAPONS since the first teaser dropped: a ‘horror epic’ depicting the aftermath of a bizarre disappearance from multiple townsfolk perspectives. but sometimes delayed gratification and mysterious marketing can work against a movie??

Ari Aster’s fourth movie EDDINGTON is also about a small town gone violent n insane, but it seems Eliza and Noah find more to grapple with in its difficult comedy and social perspective. BOTH movies offer HEAPS of strong performances, scares and standout scenes worth grappling with. reach out, tell us what u thought and remember: YOUR BEING MANIPULATED
