    Jan 30 2023

Fashion unplugged is back and this week we are talking about the very important topic of boundaries. We have a very special guest, Pauline, who can talk us through the relationships we hold with others, the notion of people pleasing and protecting ourselves with boundaries.

Pauline has had a career as a director in Human Resources for many years and 10 years ago changed her career into executive coaching. Then after the pandemic Pauline reevaluated this and decided to become a personal coach, helping many people to uncover what’s getting in the way, aligning who you truly are to live the life that you want to live.

We chat all about the fear attached to boundaries and how we overcome this so our relationships in our work and personal life can thrive. Pauline and Jen will be sharing their own experiences of how boundaries can be set, and delve into how we need to set boundaries in the changing rooms too! Questioning why we seek validation from others in what we wear and why we need to set these boundaries in order to feel truly positive and confident in ourselves.

Helen Jones is a registered nutritionist and well-being coach; she specialises in working with women in their 40’s and 50’s mid-life who struggle with hormonal changes and weight gain.

    Glossary of terms:

Adrenal Glands:  Adrenal glands, also known as suprarenal glands, are small, triangular-shaped glands located on top of both kidneys. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate your metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, response to stress and other essential functions.

Cortisol: Cortisol is a steroid hormone that your adrenal glands, the endocrine glands on top of your kidneys, produce and release. Cortisol affects several aspects of your body and mainly helps regulate your body's response to stress.

Estrogen: Estrogen is a hormone that plays various roles in the body. In females, it helps develop and maintain both the reproductive system and female characteristics, such as breasts and pubic hair.

Insulin: Insulin is a hormone created by your pancreas that controls the amount of glucose in your bloodstream at any given moment. It also helps store glucose in your liver, fat, and muscles. Finally, it regulates your body’s metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.

Menopause: Menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels. This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 55.

Perimenopause: Perimenopause is when you have symptoms before your periods have stopped. You reach menopause when you have not had a period for 12 months.

Progesterone: Progesterone is a hormone released by the corpus luteum in the ovary. It plays important roles in the menstrual cycle and in maintaining the early stages of pregnancy.

  • Marie Newman on Breast Cancer, Confidence and Style
    Dec 5 2022

This week on Fashion Unplugged we are talking about the very important topic of breast cancer and the effects this has on women going through it, both physically and emotionally. Breast cancer affects so many women, with 1 in 7 UK females being diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Knowing someone close to you, or going through this yourself, it is a life changing experience. We want to share the importance of checking yourself, because the earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the better the chance of successful treatment. And to join us this week on the podcast we have the special guest Marie, a content creator who is currently going through breast cancer treatment. She is going to share her story and also give us her thoughts on how her clothing and style can help how she feels through this time.

Marie is a Wolverhampton girl through and through now living in Shropshire. She’s mom to archie and a dog mom to Dolly & Cybil, and to say she has slight addiction to shopping is probably underselling it slightly! She has spent the majority of her career in banking & finance, but more recently working with her fiancé James who recently set up his own business. Her love of clothes and fashion started from a really early age and her Instagram page was born from her friends encouraging her to share her style and fashion ideas, and she’s so glad she did….
