About this listen

The musk ox is an Ice Age survivor adapted to life in the Arctic, genetically closer to goats and sheep than cattle. Males produce a strong scent during breeding season, while the species survives extreme cold through a dense double-layered coat and compact body shape. Musk oxen use tight defensive formations against predators, and males engage in powerful head-butting contests with reinforced skulls. Conservation efforts have successfully restored populations after the species once neared extinction.
