  • "Battlelines Drawn: Duke and Virginia Lead ACC Charge, UNC Fights Back"
    Feb 25 2026

Duke Surges, Virginia Dominates NC State, UNC Responds vs Louisville + Kansas-Cincinnati Shock | TIME-OUTMike Waddell, David Glenn and Coach Kerry Keating discuss ACC separation in February, led by Duke beating No. 1 Michigan 68-63 on a neutral floor and then crushing Notre Dame 100-56 (including 89% free-throw shooting). Glenn highlights Cameron Boozer as the national player of the year favorite, Duke’s elite defense, improved point guard play from Caleb Foster and Caden Boozer, defensive impact from Dom A. Sar, and added bench value from Nick Nia.The show recaps No. 11 Virginia’s 90-61 win over NC State, noting State’s 19 first-half points, Virginia’s 53% shooting, 46% from three, a 24-10 transition edge, and 12 blocked shots. Keating and Glenn discuss Virginia’s three losses, its shot-blocking and three-point defense, and Ryan Odom’s coaching impact, with debate over ACC Coach of the Year versus John Shire’s national recognition. They examine the ACC standings (Duke 14-1, Virginia 13-2, a 10-5 cluster) and how tiebreakers and byes could shape the ACC tournament, with mentions of Miami’s positioning and potential bubble-fight teams. NC State’s volatility is addressed after another blowout, including defensive breakdowns, flu issues, and composure problems on the road.North Carolina’s response is covered: a 77-64 road win at Syracuse with Henri Veesaar returning, followed by a Smith Center win over Louisville fueled by Seth Trimble’s career-high 30 points and a 17-2 run. Glenn notes improvement from Trimble and Luca Bova during Caleb Wilson’s absence, while concerns remain about UNC’s point guard play. Keating questions sustainability given UNC allowing 14 Louisville threes and 16 offensive rebounds despite shooting over 50% and winning the paint. In an overtime segment, the panel discusses Kansas’ home loss by 16 to Cincinnati amid Darryn Peterson drama, the difficulty of winning at Allen Fieldhouse, Kansas’ Jekyll-and-Hyde results (including a win over Houston), and what it means for March. They also assess Wes Miller’s Bearcats as defense-first but offensively inconsistent in the Big 12.The episode closes with weekend ACC games to watch, highlighted by Virginia at Duke, plus curiosity around Virginia Tech at UNC and Louisville at Clemson, and key matchup questions involving Duke’s guards, Boozer, Isaiah Evans, and Virginia’s interior shot-blockers.00:00 ACC Picture Clears01:10 Duke Stuns Michigan01:45 Boozer Leads Blue Devils03:50 Virginia Dominates State05:58 ACC Logjam Breakdown08:28 NC State Inconsistency10:48 Offense Versus Defense14:37 Roster Building For Defense20:03 Coach Of The Year Talk24:22 Tar Heels Respond Strong26:04 Trimble And Backcourt Growth28:36 UNC Sustainability Questions30:04 Trimble Boosts Ceiling31:07 Road Wins And Momentum31:49 ACC Seeding Scenarios32:53 Final Three Game Outlook33:57 Home Undefeated Stakes36:05 Organize For Success36:45 Jimmy's Wrightsville Beach37:45 Overtime Kansas At Fog39:03 Peterson Drama Impact41:49 Glenn Chemistry Red Flags44:42 Cincinnati Upset Meaning47:40 Big 12 Reality Check50:01 ACC Weekend Betting Talk52:14 Must Watch UVA At Duke55:41 Network Sign OffWelcome to the North Carolina Sports Network!Your home for all things sports in the Bold North State — from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, PGA TOUR, and NASCAR to the heart of ACC and college athletics.🎥 Stories. 🎙️ Podcasts. 📊 Analysis.Covering the legends, the rising stars, and everything in between.👇 Subscribe & follow:🌐 ncsportsnetwork.com🎧 Podcasts: Spotify, Apple & more📲 @TheNCSportsNet on all platforms#NCsports #BoldNorthState

  • BOLD STATEMENT: DG & Coach Keating Breakdown NC State's 82-58 Blowout Against UNC-CH
    Feb 18 2026

NC State Dominates UNC 82-58 in Will Wade’s First Rivalry Game at Lenovo CenterFrom the Lenovo Center, Mike Waddell, David Glenn, and coach Kerry Keating recap NC State’s decisive 82-58 win over North Carolina in the teams’ only regular-season meeting. The discussion highlights UNC playing without two best players—Caleb Wilson (fractured hand) and Henry Ssar (late scratch, day-to-day with a lower-extremity issue and flu recovery)—and how NC State capitalized with efficient shooting (50% overall, nearly half from three), only four turnovers, and control of pace and intensity. Key Wolfpack performances include Quadir Copeland’s command of the game (seven assists, no turnovers, four steals), Darien Williams returning after stitches to score 13, Paul McNeil’s shooting, and former Tar Heel Van Allen Lubin’s 12 points and six rebounds. Will Wade addresses the team’s edge, preparation, crowd impact, rivalry significance, player contributions (including Jordan Snell), and the challenge of ACC scheduling leading to only one UNC-NC State game. Hubert Davis emphasizes UNC’s lack of defensive presence and inability to generate consistent paint touches, credits NC State’s defense, notes some wide-open threes missed, and points to positives like a double-double from Zayden High while looking ahead to upcoming games at Syracuse and vs. Louisville without Wilson and possibly with Veesaar. The panel also discusses how conference expansion waters down rivalries, NC State’s potential ACC tournament positioning, and UNC’s season-long issues defending the three and needing more competent, confident guard play.00:00 Postgame Open: NC State Blows Out UNC in Raleigh00:44 Why the Win Was So Decisive (and UNC’s Injury Context)01:31 Statement Night in Year 1 Under Will Wade + Key Wolfpack Performers03:16 Is NC State’s Shooting for Real? • Pack-Heels Rivalry Week Look-Ahead + College Basketball's National Mid-Season Check-In
    Feb 16 2026

Episode 10: Caleb Wilson Injury Impact, UNC–NC State Rivalry, Duke’s Surge & National ContendersMike Waddell hosts Episode 10 of TIMEOUT: The Tobacco Road Basketball Show with David Glenn and Coach Kerry Keating. The show opens with a weekend recap: Duke beats Clemson 67–54, Wake Forest beats Stanford 68–63, Miami rallies past NC State 77–76, and North Carolina beats Pitt 79–65 despite missing Caleb Wilson and Henry Veesaar. In the pre-game stretch, Glenn and Keating discuss the mid-February Division I landscape in the first year of NCAA revenue sharing, emphasizing that success now requires both competitive budgets for transfers/recruiting and the traditional pillars of coaching, fit, chemistry, and teamwork; Keating highlights roster management and veteran composure, noting experienced teams’ late-game turnover-margin advantage. The first half focuses on Caleb Wilson's mid-February hand injury and its implications for UNC's ceiling. Glenn argues that UNC, without Wilson, is a middle-of-the-pack ACC team and that their best performances align with Wilson's presence; he notes UNC’s depth showed vs Pitt but cautions that Pitt is near the bottom of the standings. Keating explains that Hubert Davis must replace Wilson’s production through committee rebounding and possession control, rather than relying on a single player, thereby tightening the rotation and emphasizing transition, offensive rebounding, and ball security. Glenn then outlines how the NCAA selection committee may weigh UNC’s résumé depending on when Wilson returns and how effective he looks, given a difficult remaining schedule. The discussion pivots to the upcoming UNC–NC State game, with Glenn detailing NC State’s missed chance vs Miami, including late inbounds issues and Darrion Williams’ technical in a scrum, and describing the Wolfpack’s diverse scoring options (including Cordier Copeland, Paul McNeil, Williams, and NCSN partner Ven-Allen Lubin). In the second half, Glenn and Keating assess national contenders, citing a top tier that includes Duke plus teams such as Michigan, Purdue, Illinois, Arizona, Houston, Iowa State, Florida, UConn, and Gonzaga. Keating adds thoughts on offensive efficiency, Illinois’ approach to three-point defense, and names Nebraska as a potential sleeper.

Keating and Glenn then highlight strong in-state mid-major programs—High Point, UNC Wilmington, and Appalachian State—and discuss the possibility of North Carolina producing up to six or more NCAA Tournament teams, noting each program’s distinct identity and approach. 00:00 Welcome to Timeout: Weekend Recap & What’s Ahead01:22 Pre-Game Stretch: NIL Era Reality Check + Biggest National Storylines04:04 Show Roadmap: Caleb Wilson Injury, Contenders, and ‘Adults vs Stars’ in March05:18 UNC Without Caleb Wilson: Ceiling, Depth, and the Pitt Response08:14 Hubert Davis’ Adjustments: Rotation, Possessions, and Turnover Margin10:19 Bracket Math & Injury Context: How the Committee Will View UNC16:12 UNC at NC State Preview: Wolfpack’s Missed Miami Finish & Keys vs Heels23:54 Rivalry Factor in the NIL Era: Does UNC–State Still Hit Different?28:39 Big Four Check-In: Duke’s Bounce-Back, Depth Concerns & Michigan Showdown32:36 Duke vs. Michigan in February: Seeding Impact & Final Four Preview?34:20 Wake Forest Check-In: Can the Deacs Find Enough Wins?37:12 National Landscape: Volatile Top Tier & Who’s a Real Final Four Threat38:59 Contenders, Dark Horses & Why Experience Matters (Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana)41:20 Undervalued Teams in March: Late Bloomers, Injuries, and Freshmen Surges44:14 Overtime: Providence–St. John’s Brawl and the Maturity Problem in Today’s Game47:01 Experience vs NBA Talent: What Actually Wins National Titles?51:28 North Carolina Mid-Majors Rising: High Point, UNC Wilmington & App State57:36 How They Build It: Defense, Threes, and Analytics as the Show Wraps59:20 Final Wrap & Off-Mic Production Notes (Next Shows, Ticket Drama, Women’s Hoops)

    Feb 16 2026

The North Carolina Sports Network’s new show, ROAD TO AUGUSTA, hosted by Durham native Ward Clayton, former Augusta Chronicle sports editor and longtime golf author. Clayton explains how he became fascinated with Augusta after first attending the Masters in 1985 with Durham friends from the Whitfield family, and says the series will explore not just the tournament but the wider culture of Augusta—restaurants, local golf, Washington Road, patron tips, and what the community is like beyond Masters week. He recounts learning golf through Durham’s Hillandale municipal course and nearby lit par-three courses, credits local newspapers and the Herald-Sun Papers golf tournament for sparking his interest in journalism and storytelling, and shares a golf story involving Dean Smith and Mack Brown at Finley. Clayton says his most meaningful Masters memory is the annual reunion-like relationships and meeting new people, mentions longtime patron Lou Miller bringing first-timers, and promotes his book The Legendary Caddies of Augusta National while discussing caddie influence through figures like Iron Man Avery, Willie Peterson, and Carl Jackson, plus a recent example of caddie psychology with Rory McIlroy, plus a look ahead to future interviews with longtime Augusta Chronicle Masters writer David Weston—nicknamed ‘the Ghost’—and referencing influential Masters writers such as Herbert Warren Wind, Dan Jenkins, Furman Bisher, Rick Reilly, David Barrett, and David Owen.00:00 Welcome to Road to Augusta (and a little NC barbecue talk)01:41 Reset & official show intro: Why Ward is telling Augusta’s story03:20 Ward’s golf roots in Durham: Hillandale and the junior program04:24 First rounds & par-3 night golf in Durham05:32 Falling in love with journalism: Durham papers and the Herald-Sun tournament07:27 Covering Tobacco Road + Dean Smith’s competitive golf stories10:30 Why golf makes for the best storytelling (mindset, pressure, writing)11:46 The call to Augusta: Becoming sports editor & Masters coverage at the Chronicle14:36 First steps on Augusta National: the ‘AstroTurf’ grass and no-phones magic17:12 Augusta beyond the ropes: food, vibes, Washington Road & what’s changed17:52 Road to Augusta preview: Pinehurst parallels, series timeline & guests22:46 Quick-hit Q&A: favorite golfer to cover and favorite Masters moment24:57 CBS’ Broadcast & the Electric Masters Finish25:22 Augusta Spectators Gone Wild: Remembering ’86 Jack Nicklaus25:56 Pimento Cheese, Chicken Sandwiches & Pro Shop Must-Buys28:26 A Seminal Masters Memory: The People You Only See at Augusta30:15 Legendary Caddies: The Hidden Cornerstone of Augusta National33:13 Off-Camera Banter: Golf Movies, Access, and Media War Stories38:17 Building the Show: Recording the ‘Road to Augusta’ Hook40:39 Episode Tease: Augusta’s ‘Ghosts’ and Guest David WestonWelcome to the North Carolina Sports Network!Your home for all things sports in the Bold North State — from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, PGA TOUR, and NASCAR to the heart of ACC and college athletics.🎥 Stories.
