Why Your Child Reacts to Everything: Histamine Intolerance vs MCAS in Kids

This week on the Natural Super Kids Podcast, we’re unpacking one of the more confusing and complex allergy-related pictures we see in kids — when symptoms don’t follow a clear pattern, allergy testing comes back normal, but your child is still clearly reacting to something.

If your child seems to react to multiple foods, heat, stress, exercise, strong smells, or seemingly random environmental triggers, this episode will help you better understand what may be going on beneath the surface. We’re talking about histamine intolerance, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and mast cell dysregulation — and why these issues are often missed or misunderstood.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • What histamine intolerance actually is, and why it is about poor histamine breakdown, not just eating high histamine foods
    • The difference between histamine intolerance, mast cell activation syndrome, and mast cell dysregulation — and why symptoms can look so messy and unpredictable
    • Why standard allergy testing often misses these issues, even when your child is clearly reacting
    • How a more holistic approach focused on gut health, immune regulation, and inflammation can help calm the bigger picture

🎧 Tune in to learn why your child may seem to react to everything, why allergy tests can come back normal even when something is clearly wrong, and how to start approaching histamine and mast cell issues in a more grounded, practical, whole-child way.

  • Episode 258: Before you say yes to tonsil surgery: the allergy connection your child’s specialist probably hasn’t mentioned
    Apr 26 2026

Enlarged Tonsils in Children: The Overlooked Allergy Connection Before Surgery

This week on the Natural Super Kids Podcast, we’re talking about one of the most common reasons families seek support in our clinic: enlarged tonsils and adenoids.

For many parents, the conversation around tonsils and adenoids feels frustratingly limited. If your child is snoring, mouth breathing, getting frequent ear infections, or constantly congested, surgery is often presented as the main option. And while surgery can absolutely be the right path for some children, it doesn’t always answer the deeper question: why are the tonsils and adenoids enlarged in the first place?

In this episode, we explore one of the most overlooked drivers behind chronic tonsil and adenoid enlargement: allergies. From dairy and food sensitivities to dust mites and environmental triggers, we unpack how ongoing immune activation can keep this tissue inflamed and why addressing the root cause can make a meaningful difference.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • How allergies and immune activation may be contributing to enlarged tonsils and adenoids in children
    • Why dairy and dust mites are two of the most common triggers we see in clinic
    • The signs that suggest your child’s symptoms may be allergy-driven, not just structural
    • Why surgery may not fully resolve the issue if the underlying trigger hasn’t been addressed

🎧 Tune in to learn more about the allergy connection behind enlarged tonsils and adenoids, what signs to look for, and how to take a more holistic approach before rushing into surgery.

  • Episode 257: What's the link? Oral function, sleep quality and ADHD with Tash Duffin from Whole Child Co
    Apr 19 2026

The Link Between Oral Function, Sleep Quality and ADHD in Children

This week on the podcast, we’re exploring a fascinating and important connection that more families need to know about: the link between oral function, sleep quality, and ADHD-like behaviours in children.

We are joined by Tash Duffin from Whole Child Co, an occupational therapist, orofacial myofunctional therapist, and practitioner working in infant and early childhood sleep quality, feeding, and reflux. Tash also brings her own lived experience as a mum, which makes this conversation feel both deeply informed and incredibly practical.

Together, they unpack how poor sleep quality, mouth breathing, and airway dysfunction can influence focus, impulsivity, emotional regulation, behaviour, and overall development. This episode is especially valuable for parents of children with an ADHD diagnosis, ADHD-like symptoms, restless sleep, mouth breathing, or ongoing feeding challenges.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • How poor sleep quality can mimic or worsen ADHD-like behaviours, including the impact of fragmented sleep on focus, impulsivity, emotional regulation, and hyperactivity.
    • Why airway health and oral function matter so much, and how mouth breathing, sleep-disordered breathing, and poor oral rest posture can affect a child’s development, behaviour, and nervous system regulation.
    • The signs that may point to underlying sleep and airway issues, including open-mouth sleeping, restless sleep, unusual sleeping positions, bedwetting, grinding, dry lips, bad breath, selective eating, and daytime fatigue.
    • Where parents can start if they’re concerned, from observing their child’s sleep more closely to seeking the right support and understanding why addressing root causes matters more than relying on quick fixes alone.

🎧 Tune in to learn more about the connection between oral function, sleep quality, and ADHD, and why looking more closely at how your child breathes and sleeps may offer an important missing piece in their overall health and behaviour picture.
