About this listen

Mother-daughter duo Beth (a PhD clinical psychologist) and Joyce (a chronic over-thinking millennial) love to sit and chat about finding balance in the never-ending ups and downs of life - so much so, that they turned it into a podcast.

Join them every week for a candid conversation about the many ways in which life impacts our mental health, how psychology can shift your perspective, and why even if you feel like you’re dying, you’re probably not. Kinda funny, never scripted, always honest - so join the conversation!

  • A Year of Podcasting & Following What You Want vs. What You Should
    Feb 11 2026

Today is a very special episode because we are celebrating one year of No, You're Not Dying!! Time has both flown and moved at an exceedingly glacial pace, and we're recapping and reflecting on the last 365 days: what we've learned, what has surprised us, what's been left on the cutting room floor, and what we hope for the next year.

In the spirit of our podcasting anniversary, we're then getting into how to know when to break away from the status quo and what you're told you should do/be, and go after what you want. We talk about the consequences of leaving what you 'should' do behind, how to figure out what you like when you've never thought about it, and why we can lose our sense of self when we live by other people's expectations.

We also discuss how jealousy and judgement can point us in the right direction, when to listen to outside noise and when to tune it out, how to align your shoulds/wants and why sometimes all you need is a change of setting, and what to do instead of acting on impulse.

  • Body Image vs. The Big O (no, not that one)
    Feb 4 2026

This week we're having an honest conversation around body image in a time where it seems like everyone is getting smaller. We're sharing our thoughts on the shift from 'health at every size' to 'nothing tastes as good as skinny feels' and the whiplash that comes with it, the fundamental misconception that it's everyone's goal to lose weight, and how we place too much value on what we look like versus who we are.

We also discuss the marketing of weight-loss medications and its implications, the pressure we can feel to change ourselves even if we've worked hard to feel comfortable in our own skin, how we deal with toxic thoughts, and why 'losing 5 pounds' might not be the ultimate answer.

Plus, our takes on how celebrity weight-loss influences the public, thin privilege, and the limitations of plus-size fashion.

  • Why Discomfort Leads Us to Distance from Others
    Jan 28 2026

This week, we were inspired by a video we saw from @sarahcha.d on Instagram where she mentioned that we are all one step away from being unable to afford food. It got us thinking about our own vulnerabilities, the fragility of life, and how that awareness promotes empathy.

We dig into why people distance and create an 'other' mentality when they want to avoid difficult things, how we take our standing in life for granted, and why a little compassion can go a long way.

We also discuss why the blame game has no purpose when people are actively struggling, how isolationism interferes with empathy, and why we all need to remember that nothing lasts forever (good, bad, or otherwise).
