A Bag of Balloons, A Life Less Ordinary

In this episode of Ordinary Extraordinary, host Karen O’ Sullivan sits down with the wonderfully unique Aaron Lewis — better known as Aaron the Balloon Man. A familiar and uplifting presence on the streets of Cork and beyond, Aaron has built an inspiring life through creativity, connection, and courage.

Raised in the North-East of England by his Sligo-born grandmother, Aaron has called Cork home for over 20 years. More than a balloon artist, he is a magician, storyteller, writer, and photographer — someone who has turned simple moments into lasting magic.

Aaron shares his journey of becoming “The Balloon Man,” the challenges and joys along the way, and the incredible experiences his path has brought him on — including walking the Camino for 31 consecutive days and hitchhiking across Canada for three months, fully funded by his balloon artistry. Along the way, he reflects on the people he’s met, the lessons he’s learned, and the autobiography he’s currently preparing to publish.

He leaves listeners with three powerful life lessons:

    1. Follow your heart
    2. Be yourself
    3. Find something in life you would do for passion

    And this beautiful quote:
"It’s coming back, the return that gives meaning to the going forth. We don’t always know where we have been until we get back to where we were — only where we were may not be as it was because of who we have become, which is, after all, why we left."

  • Choosing The Bright Side
    Apr 9 2026

In this episode, I sit down with Virginie Laveau — the inspiring woman behind On The Verge — whose journey began with a bold, life-changing decision. At just 19, after a night out with friends in France, she packed everything into her car and moved to Ireland without knowing a single person, landing in Ringaskiddy and starting completely from scratch.

What follows is a story of resilience, courage, and growth. Virg opens up about working hard, saving, and taking out a loan to buy her home — and how that experience taught her the power of staying present. We also dive into more challenging chapters of her life, including PTSD and panic attacks, and how she found ways to navigate and overcome them.

A chance connection through Surf2Heal brought us together, making this conversation even more meaningful. Virg shares her outlook on life — choosing the bright side, even in difficult moments, like recovering from a broken shoulder — and her belief that “there’s always a positive in the negatives.”

From manifesting her dream home to building her creative brand, caring for animals (including a baby lamb!), and creating jewellery and clothing, Virg’s story is full of heart, honesty, and inspiration.

In this episode of Ordinary Extraordinary, I sit down with Noelle Liston, founder of New Life Therapies in Foynes, Co. Limerick. Noelle’s work is deeply rooted in her own powerful life journey.

In 2006, Noelle survived a devastating car accident and spent 50 days in hospital recovering from multiple injuries. She had to learn how to walk again. That life-changing experience gave her a profound appreciation for the body’s incredible ability to heal and sparked a deep interest in caring for our physical, emotional and energetic wellbeing.

In July 2024, after completing the Dawson Program Corrective Sounds course, Noelle founded New Life Therapies to support others on their own healing journeys. Her holistic approach focuses on restoring balance in mind, body and spirit through therapies such as Aromatouch Massage, Reiki, Theta Healing and Dawson Program Corrective Sounds.
