  • Good Trouble Lives On | A Day of National Protest | Palm Springs, CA Edition | Encore Broadcast
    Aug 6 2025

Watch the VIDEO version of this here: https://youtu.be/IVzHjtNnf9Q

PromoHomo.TV® and Nicholas Snow broadcast live, July 17, 2025, on Snow's official public Facebook page one of the thousands of "Good Trouble" events taking place across the nation , this one at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, co-organized by Courageous Resistance of the Desert, Indivisible of the Desert, Brothers of the Desert, the Coachella Valley Sistahs Network, and The Palm Springs Black History Committee.

As we learn at GoodTroubleLivesOn.org, "Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration. Together, we’ll remind them that in America, the power lies with the people. Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the action of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, communities across the country will take to the streets, courthouses, and community spaces to carry forward his fight for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all."

  • Friends Rally around Richard Bass, Founder Emeritus of P.A.L.S, as he receives hospice care

Friends Rally around Richard Bass, Founder Emeritus of P.A.L.S, as he receives hospice care

Click here to watch the video.

From Nicholas Snow… Yesterday, August 2nd, 2025, I received an email from the P.A.L.S. Board of Directors with the news that the organization’s founder, Richard Bass, whom I’m honored to know, is receiving hospice care. The email is encouraging Richard’s friends and admirers to “gather around Richard with love and light as he opens up and shares what it’s really like to encounter one’s end of life.”

PALS is “Planning Ahead for LGBTQ+ Seniors”

As we learn at www.PalsInTheDesert.com, “PALS Mission is to create a community of seniors who look out for each other by informing and educating LGBTQ+ people and allies on all aspects of planning ahead before health or life-altering situations arise.

PALS accomplishes its mission by offering informational and educational programs year-round that include no cost seminars, workshops, resource materials and special events both in-person and online.”

On May 2nd, 2024, I livestreamed Richard’s retirement party from the patio at EIGHT4NINE Restaurant & Lounge, and now, as we are called to rally around him, I thought, let’s celebrate Richard while he’s living. Let ME share a rebroadcast of that beutiful event, starring Richard himself. And let me expand the space in which “we gather around Richard with love and light.”

Here’s the full text of the email from PALS…

    August 2, 2025

Dear PALS members, friends and allies,

We just learned a few days ago that our community’s dear friend and PALS founder, Richard Bass, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Bladder Cancer. He’s now on hospice at home in Stonewall Gardens, where he’s receiving the utmost care, kindness and consideration.

It’s hard to put into words all the ways in which Richard continues to touch our lives since he was at the helm of Planning Ahead for LGBTQ Seniors from 2013-24. Indeed, we’d just celebrated his retirement with a fabulous send off party, topped off by the City of Palm Springs recognizing his decades of empowering LGBTQ+ older adults to take action by proclaiming May 2, 2024 as Richard Bass Day! Yet here we are 15 months later where everything he’s given to us and what PALS stands for —creating a community that looks out for each other by informing and educating LGBTQ+ seniors and allies on all aspects of planning ahead —has come full circle.

It’s time to gather around Richard with love and light as he opens up and shares what it’s really like to encounter one’s end of life. Thankfully, we can each be with him during what he’s calling “my last great adventure” by accessing this Caring Bridge page where he will post updates, receive messages and engage in essential conversations that we hope will help sustain him (and us) when just being there is needed the most.

Please join us in being a pal for Richard during this very special time.

    Sincerely,

Lorraine, Dan, Christopher, Rick, Jim, Mike, Juan, Kasey, Jamie, Kelly and Atma

  • Palm Springs (California) City Council Approves Landmark Pride Flagpole for Arenas DIstrict
    Aug 2 2025

In June, 2025, the Palm Springs City Council approved a license agreement with Palm Springs Pride for the construction, installation, maintenance, and operation of a landmark flagpole in the Arenas District. This significant decision paves the way for a powerful symbol of hope, freedom, and equality in the heart of Palm Springs.

Palm Springs Pride seeks to raised $50,000. Pledge your support today and stand tall with Pride at https://bit.ly/arenasflag.

The Arenas District Flagpole Project will feature a prominent installation of the Gilbert Baker-designed Pride flag, considered the most significant piece of LGBTQ+ art created by Baker (June 2, 1951 – March 31, 2017). This landmark art installation commemorates the Black, white, Latino, Asian, and Native-born activists who have tirelessly fought for LGBTQ+ equality since the flag was first flown in San Francisco in 1978. It is planned to be located at Arenas Road and Indian Canyon Drive, a key gateway to the Arenas Business District. This vital project is spearheaded by the Arenas District Merchants and will be managed by the 40-year-old, 501(c)(3) nonprofit Palm Springs Pride organization.

Gilbert Baker’s iconic rainbow flag emerged from a request by the late gay supervisor Harvey Milk, who urged Baker, a gay artist, to design a symbol for the 1978 San Francisco Pride parade. With the assistance of friends Lynn Segerblom and James McNamara, Baker initially created an eight-striped rainbow flag. He later refined the design to six colored stripes, transforming it into an international symbol of LGBTQ+ rights.

Much like the civil rights movement it represents, the flag’s journey is ongoing. Initially, the Rainbow Flag symbolized liberation, breaking free from fear and conformity, and the right to express one’s sexuality without shame or retaliation. In Palm Springs, this flag will soon stand as a powerful testament to freedom and equality for all.

Palm Springs prides itself on being one of the most welcoming and inclusive communities in the nation, and this landmark art installation will further reinforce that spirit.

The concept of a landmark flagpole in the Arenas District has been a topic of discussion among members of the Arenas Business District, the first certified business district under the City’s Commercial District Program, as a way to attract visitors from downtown and the Convention Center. In July 2024, the City Council requested information from staff regarding the City’s ability to install a flagpole, culminating in tonight’s approval.

The flagpole will proudly display the Gilbert Baker-designed Pride flag. Approved alternative flags include the Transgender flag designed by Monica F. Helms, the Leather Pride flag designed by Anthony (Tony) F. DeBlase, the Bisexual Pride flag designed by Michael Page, and the State of California flag. Additionally, the U.S. flag will be displayed on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Flags can be lowered to half-staff by presidential, gubernatorial, or local proclamation.

“In Palm Springs’ 87-year history, no other cultural or civic group has stepped forward to propose funding a landmark flagpole to honor their community. Yet today, the LGBTQ+ community is doing just that, championing a powerful symbol of pride and inclusivity for all to see,” said Ron deHarte, the President and CEO of Palm Springs Pride. As Mayor of Palm Springs, Ron was recused from participating in this project.

“You can support the Landmark Pride Flag. We’re actively raising funds for the Arenas District Pride Flagpole, an incredible piece of art that will symbolize hope and commemorate the tireless fight for equality among activists of all backgrounds,” said Mitch Battersby, the Palm Springs Pride Director of Volunteers and a project lead.
