Director Lynette Redding Cervantes and Assistant Director Jaime Flores share their experience and success stories with training new CDL drivers.

This episode was recorded when a large number of CDL training programs were being inspected and removed from the national registry. Lynette shares her perspective on CDL mills and common CDL training gaps that leave new drivers unprepared for basic challenges like backing a trailer in real-world circumstances.

Lynette and Jaime share their perspective on how trucking has attracted people from other professions since the pandemic, including women and nurses. Community college programs like Del Mar College provide training at a low cost (often with scholarships and tuition assistance available), and their quality of training makes a difference for employers who are open to hiring new drivers with limited experience. The conversation also touches on human trafficking prevention.
