  • War Eagles Abroad: Learning Beyond Borders - 3
    Feb 25 2026
War Eagles Abroad: Learning Beyond Borders During the summer of 2025, PCCSS faculty, administrators, and board members traveled to Tanzania in East Africa to determine whether this could become a safe, high-quality, life-changing international travel opportunity for our students. Tanzania is a unique country along the Indian Ocean, home to the Serengeti Plain, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater, and Olduvai Gorge, often called the cradle of humanity. Our team partnered with long-standing University of Georgia programs led by Dr. Lioba Moshi and worked closely with experienced professionals at Zara Tanzanian Adventures to review safety, lodging, transportation, and academic value. They visited local schools, planted a tree at the Upendo--One Kids at a Time center, and built strong relationships that reflect shared values of learning, service, and leadership across two continents. As a result of this successful exploratory visit, we are preparing to take six Putnam County War Eagles to Tanzania for a powerful Lived Experience in June 2026. This Lived Learning trip will challenge them, inspire them, and expand their vision of what is possible. These students will stand where human history began, engage directly with educators and peers across the globe, and participate in meaningful service that strengthens international partnerships. They will represent our community with excellence while gaining firsthand insight into history, science, culture, and global leadership. When the whole world becomes curriculum, War Eagles learn to lead anywhere. For more information about our upcoming trip to Tanzania, please contact Dr. Avis Williams at (706) 485-5381. • S.T.A.R.S in Action: Bridging the Gap Between School and Work - 16
    May 15 2025
S.T.A.R.S. in Action: Bridging the Gap Between School and Work Explore how the S.T.A.R.S. program is transforming student readiness for the professional world in this week’s Putnam Proud Podcast! The Putnam County High School Student Transition and Readiness Skills or S.T.A.R.S. program is a pivotal initiative designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world work environments. This innovative program is structured to provide students with practical experiences that enhance their readiness for future employment and independence. One of the primary components of the S.T.A.R.S. program is providing students with hands-on experience in real-world tasks. Activities such as document shredding at the Board of Education (BOE) office, bagging groceries at Ingles Supermarket or sorting sauces at Zaxby’s allow students to learn and practice workplace rules and procedures within a supportive setting. This exposure is crucial for developing the "workforce" skills necessary for future employment. The S.T.A.R.S./Community-Based Instruction takes learning beyond the traditional classroom setting. By engaging in activities that apply academic knowledge to real-life situations, students not only acquire practical job skills but also contribute positively to the community. This approach fosters a sense of responsibility and accomplishment as students see the tangible impact of their efforts. The program emphasizes the development of essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Through various activities and interactions, students enhance these skills, which are crucial for success in any professional environment. The benefits of the S.T.A.R.S. program are numerous. Students gain real-world experience that complements their academic education, making the transition from school to work smoother. By mastering workplace skills, students build confidence in their abilities, paving the way for greater independence in their future careers. Moreover, participation in community-based activities helps students understand the value of their contributions and fosters a sense of belonging and purpose. The S.T.A.R.S. program represents a significant step forward in preparing students for the challenges of the workforce. By focusing on practical experience and skill development, we are equipping students with the tools they need to succeed both personally and professionally. Thanks for listening.

  • 4 Houses, One Family: Fostering Connections at PCMS - 15
    May 8 2025
Four Houses, One Family: Fostering Connections at PCMS Explore how the House system fosters unity and friendship among students of all ages at Putnam County Middle School. The PCMS House system ensures that students feel supported by their peers from the moment they enter middle school. It helps students quickly develop a sense of belonging and bridges the gap between grade levels. The school's community would be incomplete without the opportunity for students to interact with teachers beyond the classroom, fostering stronger relationships between adults and students. The goal of PCMS' House system is to create a school-wide family atmosphere and uplifting culture that builds character and confidence in students. One of the main strengths of the House system is that it allows students of all ages to work together, creating a cohesive environment where age is not a barrier to friendship and collaboration. A point system adds a fun and healthy competitive spirit among the Houses. Points are collected throughout the year by each student, contributing to their House’s overall score to determine the champions in May. Students can earn points for demonstrating good character, academic excellence, school spirit, humility, compassion, and responsibility. The highlight of this program for most students is the House Celebrations held on the last Friday of each month. These spirit days are crucial for letting students take ownership and instill pride in their Houses. All students perform their House cheers and chants, earn points for their Houses, and participate in various games and House meetings with the PCMS faculty. Overall, the House system has helped each PCMS student form friendships and create closer bonds with their peers and teachers as they navigate these crucial years of their schooling. Thanks for listening.

  • From Beds to Brighter Futures: Uplifting Families with Neighbors Helping Neighbors - 14
    Apr 24 2025
Neighbors Helping Neighbors Partnership From Beds to Brighter Futures: Uplifting Families with Neighbors Helping Neighbors The Putnam County Charter School System is immensely grateful for our partnership with Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) and for the exceptional support they have provided to our students and their families. This collaboration has played a crucial role in uplifting our community by offering essential services to those in greatest need. Founded in 2020, Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a local service organization that serves individuals and families in Greene and Putnam Counties. Their mission is to offer a "hand-up" rather than a handout, empowering recipients to achieve long-term stability and success. NHN is dedicated to addressing critical needs, focusing on three primary services. First, they conduct urgent home repairs to ensure safe and secure living conditions. Second, they assist with vehicle repairs or replacements to provide reliable transportation, enabling families to maintain employment and access essential services. Third, their "Beds for Kidz" program provides beds to children who do not have one of their own, ensuring they have a comfortable and healthy environment for sleep. NHN serves a diverse group of individuals, including older adults, children, single working mothers and their children, military veterans, and developmentally and/or physically challenged individuals, as well as low-income families. In a relatively short time, NHN has significantly impacted the community by building and delivering hundreds of beds to children in need, completing numerous home improvement projects, and repairing or replacing several vehicles for families. Through their dedicated efforts, NHN continues to provide invaluable support, fostering a stronger and more resilient community. We are proud to work alongside them and look forward to the continued success of our partnership for the betterment of our students and their families. Thanks for listening.

  • Building Bonds: The Impact of Partner's Club - 13
    Apr 3 2025
Building Bonds: The Impact of Partner's Club The Partner's Club is a Putnam County High School initiative that focuses on fostering inclusion and connection among our exceptional students and their peers through various sports and social activities. Each month, the club organizes visits to nearby schools where members engage in sports like basketball, footgolf, bocce, ultimate football, and wiffle ball. They also host kickball games at their high school. The club is designed to promote inclusivity by ensuring that each team is composed of both partners and special education students, allowing for collaboration and camaraderie. To strengthen these bonds, club members share lunch together once a month. Furthermore, the Partners Club plays a supportive role in the War Eagle Games by assisting special education students, ensuring they are present at their events and cheering them on, thereby creating an encouraging and unified environment. The impact of the Partner's Club extends beyond just sports and games; it creates lasting friendships and understanding among students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Through these shared experiences, students learn the value of empathy, teamwork, and acceptance, which are essential life skills that will benefit them well beyond their school years. Thanks for listening.

  • Celebrating Success: Recognizing Academic and Behavioral Excellence at PCMS - 12
    Mar 20 2025
Celebrating Success: Recognizing Academic and Behavioral Excellence at PCMS One of PCMS's initiatives this year focuses on acknowledging students who meet expectations. Each month, they provide incentives for achievements in areas like attendance, academics, and responsible behavior. Embracing accountability, meeting deadlines, and fulfilling commitments are vital life skills that bring substantial benefits over time. PCMS aims to motivate their scholars to pursue excellence. These guidelines are designed to give students aa streamlined framework that can be applied to any type of learning environment. The House System builds character with a reward system that goes beyond something like earning a piece of candy from a candy jar for doing something good. Instead, each student’s achievements add to a collective group, making the reward communal and social. We have seen this change the way that a student perceives points over time: what may start as extrinsic motivation in the beginning turns into intrinsic motivation as the student realizes the behavioral and academic traits and ethics that are valued by their peers. The incentives change each month, presenting new and exciting opportunities for students to explore. From trips to the Georgia National Fair, ice skating outings, to visits to Six Flags, students are actively engaging in their classes, working towards improved test scores, and enhancing their attendance and behavior! Thanks for listening.
