    Now onto today’s newspapers

     

    The Amir of Kuwait has undergone successful surgery. No details have been given beyond that. But it would seem that everything is going well.

     

    Municipalities are stepping up inspections and preparations in readiness for Eid Al-Adha. Inspections of food outlets, abattoirs, supermarkets and meat shops are being intensified. And disinfection of public facilities such as parks and beaches are also well under way.

    Eid Al-Adha will be at the end of next week.

     

    There’s a fourth drive through COVID-19 testing hub on its way. The Hub’s were setup for easy and convenient testing. Participants are invited by a text message to attend, and well, drive through and get tested. 14,236 invitations have been sent out, and 10,679 have attended  for testing. So that’s around two thirds respond then.

     

    A new company called ‘Falcon’ are setting up to offer sustainable tech-enabled micromobility solutions here in Qatar.

    There’s images of happy people riding electric scooters near metro stations. And this is because the company will be offering last mile travel solutions.  So you’ll be able to arrive at a station, pick up an electric scooter, a quickly get to you destination by yourself. How cool is that?

     

     

     

    Now here’s a quick look at yesterday’s COVID update 

    Of the 2,710 tested, 340 people which represents 12.55%, tested positive. 

    There were 354 recoveries, and I’m sad to say, 3 deaths.

    Meaning active cases have dropped by 17 to 3,114 in the previous 24hr period.

    On today’s front pages.

    The Amir of Kuwait was admitted to hospital yesterday for checkups. And the Kuwaiti Crown Prince has been assigned to take over some of the constitutional jurisdiction duties.

     

    Doha Metro has won the prestigious Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation, or CIHT, International Award 2020. Which recognizes outstanding examples of highway and transportation infrastructure or services outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

    Doha Metro won the award having been shortlisted alongside mega projects in the US, Africa, Asia and the Balkans.

     

    With International travel restrictions in place, Qatar’s hospitality sector have geared up for an expected increase in Staycations this year. Hotels and resorts in Qatar have created some outstanding packages, including up to 50% off, early check-ins, late checkouts and room upgrades.

    In Qatar there’s a law restricting working hours for those working outdoors during the summer months. For the health and safety of those working outdoors it’s forbidden to work between the hours of 11:30am and 3pm. Keeping them out of the heat of the midday sun. However its been announced yesterday that 33 worksites have been closed down for violating this law.

     

    And finally, local dates are to become available from July 20th. The Agricultural Affairs Department have announced that fresh dates, locally known as Al Rutab, will be available at all Al Meera Supermarket branches from July 20th

    On todays front pages.

    The Amir participates in the 136th session of the International Olympic Committee, using video conferencing.

     

    Hamad Medical Corporation’s new satellite facility in the Industrial Area, aims to deliver safe and effective care to people who work and live in the area.

    The Industrial Area Satellite Emergency Department, or IASED as it’s becoming known. Currently sees around 100 patients per day, and is expected to increase to 300 to 500 patients per day once the facility is fully operational.

     

    Qatar is calling for the lifting of sanctions on Sudan. It’s also asking for Sudan to be removed from the list of terrorist states.

     

    Local agricultural product yards have seen record sales this season. With a 120% increase on the previous season.

    As well as selling local fruit and vegetables, the yards also include fish, poultry, sheep, goats, eggs, honey and many other products from farms in the area.

     

    And finally, launching in a couple of weeks time, will be the Qatar Quick Weekend Edition.

    A weekly magazine program brining you suggestions and ideas for the weekend ahead. With a panel of some of Qatar’s finest social media personalities.  Covering food, sport, culture, health, TV and Film.

    And will be available on YouTube, Facebook and all top podcast providers.
