    I Remember Iran

On November 4, 1979, militants seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage in a crisis that lasted 444 days and permanently reshaped U.S.–Iran relations. The takeover followed the Islamic Revolution that removed the pro-Western Shah and altered Iran’s political direction. The hostage crisis became a defining moment in how Americans viewed Iran.

I was a young airman with only a couple of sessions in the command center of a Titan II missile silo when the hostages were taken. Our squadron was placed on heightened alert — not since alerts during the Vietnam War had our nuclear arsenal been elevated that way. The tension wasn’t theoretical; it was operational, and many debating today’s conflict don’t remember Iran before 1979.

Austin Mass Shooting Heroes Before Grand Jury

Police officers credited with stopping the deadly mass shooting outside an Austin bar are expected to face grand jury review as part of the investigation. The gunman opened fire in the Sixth Street entertainment district, killing three people and injuring more than a dozen before officers responded and fatally shot the attacker. Authorities say the rapid response likely prevented additional casualties.

Still, the case will go before a grand jury, a step now common in officer-involved shootings. Supporters argue the officers did exactly what the public expects in a moment of chaos — stop the threat and protect lives.

How Much Is That Doggie in the Airport?

A traveler at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport was arrested after allegedly abandoning a two-year-old dog at the terminal when the airline would not allow the pet to board without proper paperwork.

Airport staff and animal rescue workers stepped in quickly to care for the dog and ensure it was safe. While it’s hard to imagine leaving a pet behind like luggage, the pup at least ended up in better hands.

    Down the Up Shaft

Professional golfer Pavan was hospitalized after suffering injuries in what authorities described as a “freak accident” in South Africa, where he reportedly fell down an open elevator shaft. According to initial reports, the elevator car was not present at the floor when the doors were accessed, leading to the fall. Emergency responders transported him for medical evaluation, and officials have indicated the incident was not life-threatening.

Continued Coverage of the Iran Conflict

The 2026 Iran conflict has intensified following coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian military and strategic targets. Officials describe the operation as a direct effort to weaken Iran’s leadership and defense infrastructure. The escalation has prompted retaliatory missile and drone activity across the region, raising tensions beyond Iran’s borders.

U.S. and allied forces remain on heightened alert amid warnings of further retaliation, including potential cyberattacks and proxy engagements. Analysts caution that while military objectives may be defined, the broader geopolitical and economic consequences remain uncertain as diplomatic efforts attempt to prevent wider regional destabilization.

Padres Prospect Turns Down Offer Over California Taxes

Veteran pitcher Merrill Kelly reportedly declined a contract offer from the San Diego Padres, citing California’s tax structure as a significant factor in his decision. According to reporting, Kelly weighed the financial impact of the state’s high income tax rates when comparing offers, ultimately choosing a situation that provided a more favorable after-tax outcome. California’s top marginal tax rate remains among the highest in the nation, a recurring concern for professional athletes whose contracts often span multiple states and complex tax jurisdictions.

502 Road Rage 101: IRAN into no Emergency

    Where Is Congress?

Amid rising tensions following presidential action aimed at countering a potential threat from Iran, public reaction has been immediate and sharply divided. Critics have questioned whether the President acted within constitutional bounds, raising concerns about executive authority and war powers. Yet despite the intensity of the condemnation, there has been no emergency joint session of Congress, no urgent vote, and no visible institutional response matching the volume of public outrage.

If the action was unconstitutional, the Constitution provides Congress clear tools to respond. If it was lawful, the rhetoric surrounding it raises questions of political theater. The absence of immediate legislative action underscores a broader concern: in moments framed as constitutional crises, are institutions responding — or are we witnessing another cycle of amplified outrage without procedural follow-through?

    Drop the “T”

Uptalk. Vocal fry. And now consonants are optional. “Butter” becomes “buh-er.” “Important” becomes “impor-ant.” Is this harmless linguistic evolution, or a gradual erosion of communication standards? We examine whether social media trends and generational speech patterns are reshaping how we speak — and what that means for clarity and professionalism.

    Softer Buns and Creamier…

Burger King has announced upgraded hamburger buns and creamier cheese — positioned as meaningful innovation. In an era of global instability and economic tension, the culinary breakthrough appears to be softer bread. We take a tongue-in-cheek look at corporate messaging and America’s appetite for incremental “improvements.”

    Pot Funded Reparations?!?

An Illinois city is funding reparations initiatives using cannabis tax revenue, sparking debate over both funding ethics and sustainability. Supporters see a pragmatic approach to resource allocation; critics question whether relying on vice-based revenue aligns with the moral framing of the program. The conversation touches on symbolism, fiscal durability, and broader policy implications.
