About this listen

The radio hour and podcast that explores relationships between censorship, defunding and repression. Broadcast live out of Berlin on 88.4 FM monthly, and thereafter published as a podcast, with additional guest interviews dropping throughout the year. Meet performer and anthropologist Jara Nassar, independent radio activist of 10 years jewelz, and artist Alex Head. Where state repression of artistic freedom foreshadows the repression of the private citizen’s freedom of speech, this show will seek to turn the microphone, to witness how censorship and repression are re-shaping the cultural landscape of Berlin, while artists and activists find creative ways to communicate their urgent concerns to one another. All against a backdrop of evermore troubled relationships between artists, institutions, creative scenes and political commonalities. Each responding to policies emanating from the political Far Right to defund the arts, social infrastructure, education and welfare. Created with sub_ʇxǝʇ radio. • S1E9 - Police Violence with Anabel - Arrest Documentation Unit
    Dec 3 2025

It has been the most striking feature of current political repression in Germany: police brutalizing protesters with extreme force. Especially in Berlin, police violence against political dissidents has become a regular occurrence. But what is behind this violence?

Anabel from the Arrest Documentation Unit (ADU) will be joining R A R live in the studio to discuss the specific role and function that police violence fulfills within systemic state repression in Germany today, starting with the repression of Palestine solidarity and expanding from climate activism to the police violence against anti-AfD protesters in Gießen this weekend.

ADU is one of the publishers of the report Repression Against Palestine Solidarity in Germany, which describes in great detail the different forms of repression utilized by the German state against Palestine solidarity protesters.

  • S1E8 - Honoring the Statue of Peace - with Aiko, Zoë Claire Miller
    Nov 19 2025

With the removal of Ari, a statue commemorating the sexual slavery of over 200.000 women at the hands of the Japanese military during WWII, Berlin once again enacts political censorship through the arts.

In 1992, the Korean Council for Women Drafted for Military Sexual Slavery by Japan, began weekly Wednesday protests and to commemorate the 1000th protest, a public statue known as The Statue of Peace was installed opposite the Japanese embassy in Seoul.

Ari, a sister to that statue, is a sculpture of a young woman created by the Korean artists Kim Seo-kyung and Kim Eun-sung located in the Berlin district of Moabit, until 18th of October 2025. The campaign in Germany seeks to put pressure on the Japanese government for acknowledgement and reparation while also drawing attention to the politicians in Germany that have pushed for her removal - Stefanie Remlinger (Green Party), and former Berlin mayor Kai Wegner to name but two.

We chart the history of this powerful movement, the relevance of its goals and strategies for contemporary Germany and the attempts of multiple politicians to relativize the specific crimes of the Japanese army in a manner that attempts to obscure the established pipeline between sexual abuse, anti-democratic efforts and the billionaire class.
