• From Weetabix to Wellness
    Mar 16 2026

Hayley and Tommy take a thoughtful and humorous look at how everyday life has changed, starting with the simplicity of childhood mornings and drifting into the modern world of wellness routines, supplements, mindfulness, and self-improvement culture.

Remembering school-day breakfasts, familiar routines, and a time when mornings felt slower and less complicated, they compare past and present expectations around health, productivity, and happiness.

As the conversation unfolds, they explore the pressure to optimise every part of life — from vitamins and meditation to journaling and morning habits — and question whether modern wellness trends actually make us feel better or simply busier. Along the way, the discussion naturally wanders into nostalgic memories, ten-pin bowling outings, hidden talents, childhood beliefs about heaven and growing up, and the small experiences that quietly shape who we become.

Blending humour with reflection, this episode captures the feeling of two friends following wherever a conversation leads, moving between lighthearted memories and surprisingly deep questions about meaning, belief, and what it really means to live well. It's a relaxed, relatable chat about growing older, staying curious, and finding balance between the comfort of the past and the complexity of modern life.

  • The Landline Years
    Mar 9 2026

In this episode, Hayley and Tommy take a heartfelt trip back to the era of landline telephones, remembering the rituals, awkward moments, and unexpected joys of calling friends before mobile phones existed.

From speaking nervously to a friend's parent before reaching them, to stretching tangled phone cords across hallways and chatting comfortably about absolutely nothing, they reflect on how slower communication shaped relationships in ways modern technology rarely allows.

The conversation wanders — as the best chats do — into memories of mysterious neighbours, chance reunions decades later, growing older while still feeling young inside, and the small cultural moments that define generations.

Along the way, they share humorous stories about caller display, missed-call signals, cross lines, foreign exchange students, and the strange ways people recognise each other across time.

This episode is a celebration of everyday memories: the beauty of unplanned conversations, the comfort of familiar voices, and the shared experiences that quietly connect us all.

Expect nostalgia, laughter, and plenty of "oh, I remember that" moments.

  • Nails, Vinegar, and Childhood Memories
    Feb 23 2026

In this episode of Retro Rambling Nonsense, Hayley and Tommy go it alone, diving into a delightful mix of nostalgia, humor, and quirky everyday observations. They start with childhood memories of fingernails—Tommy's secret school-time nail filing and modern grooming gadgets like electric toenail clippers—and expand into whimsical reflections on gadgets, K-Tel toys, and clever kitchen tools that make life a little easier (or more absurd).

The conversation drifts to the evolution of simple pleasures. From one type of cheese and a handful of crisp flavors to an overwhelming variety of vinegars, they laugh at the complexities of modern life while celebrating the classics. Childhood sweets, Woolworths pick-and-mix, and playful bus and train adventures add layers of personal nostalgia.

Along the way, quirky history and pop culture sneak in, from John Major's fish-and-chip diplomacy to the surprising origins of humbugs, and TV comedy nostalgia with Shooting Stars and Would I Lie to You?

Full of warmth, wit, and retro charm, this episode invites listeners to remember the small joys of youth, appreciate the eccentricities of everyday life, and revel in the quirky stories that make life endlessly entertaining.

  • Hold the Ring and Other Nonsense
    Feb 16 2026

Tommy, Hayley and Duncan take a long, cheerful wander through the strange afterlife of the English language, from "Bob's your uncle" and "double bubble" to why everyone suddenly insists on "pivoting" and going on "journeys".

There's fury at management speak, nostalgia for lost phrases, and a lot of laughter about how words fall in and out of fashion.

Things then drift into found diaries, abandoned philosophy books, accidental love letters, strange radio bloopers and the small, oddly magical moments you only get when someone leaves part of their life behind on a train or a tube seat.

Add in pebbly beaches, childhood mischief and a few stories that probably shouldn't be Googled, and you've got a very Rambling Retro Nonsense kind of episode.

  • Floats, Bread and Big Cars
    Feb 10 2026

What do glass bottles on doorsteps, Michael Caine on a milk float, and Rolls-Royces with built-in umbrellas have in common? Very little… and yet somehow they all collide in this gloriously rambling episode of Rambling Retro Nonsense.

Tommy, Duncan, and Hayley start with the simple nostalgia of early-morning deliveries and end up on a delightful detour through clinking bottles, pecked cream tops, midnight bakers, celebrity limos, and the theatre of British life. Expect stories of doorstep bottles, rolling groceries, still-warm loaves from a bakery in Arundel, and Michael Caine cruising dawn-lit London on a milk float.

    Also on the menu:

Outrageous vehicles with hidden umbrellas, the quirks of Prime Ministers getting out of cars, and a heady mix of celebrity, politics, and classic retro memories. It's warm, funny, and absurdly charming—a wander through the tiny joys of everyday life, with a side of glamour and nostalgia.

  • Rusty Nails, Colonics & Cornflakes
    Feb 2 2026

This week starts off sensibly with a chat about vitamins…

......and somehow ends with samurai, school reports, enemas and Anne Diamond tattoos.

We dive head-first into the weird and wonderful world of health fads, from Victorian women sucking rusty nails for iron (yep, really) to 90s miracle drinks, vibrating belts and flushing your insides out with a hose.

Along the way, things go wildly off-road — as they always do.

    In This Episode:

Why Victorians were encouraged to suck rusty nails
Cod liver oil, vitamins and the supplement explosion
Aqua Libra – the 90s drink that made you feel healthy just by holding it
    Green juices and influencer nonsense
The truly horrifying world of colonic irrigation
Duncan's behind-the-scenes camera tour of his own insides
Tommy's indestructible liver and self-administered organ massage
Cutting up kidneys in school biology class
The worst (and funniest) sex education ever
School reports and teachers who couldn't even get your name right
GCSEs, hangovers and Young Farmers gone wild
Cornflake diets, cabbage soup and grapefruit misery
Ab rollers, vibrating belts and fitness scams
Bullworkers, stuntmen and duelling survival tips
Samurai philosophy, beheadings and how to deal with enemies
And why Anne Diamond might need a tattoo that says "Wait at the Bridge"

  • Movies We Definitely Shouldn't Have Watched
    Jan 25 2026

This week we ask the important question:

What did you watch as a kid that absolutely ruined your sleep for years?

Hayley confesses to secretly watching A Nightmare on Elm Street (and feeling like the police were about to burst through the door), while Duncan relives the trauma of Salem's Lot… including a jump scare that nearly ended him.

Tommy, meanwhile, somehow escaped horror films but was emotionally scarred by being taken to Lawrence of Arabia at the age of eight. Because parenting was different then.

    Things quickly spiral into:

Why Jaws made swimming pools terrifying 🦈
Real-life sharks on a Florida beach
A whale nearly murdering Tommy (honestly) 🐋
Kids carrying pen knives and flick knives at school
The dangerously stupid games we used to play
Old men in hats spitting in the street
Tracksuit bottoms, jogging bottoms and "house pants"
And the moment Tommy accidentally witnessed the first ever F-word on British TV
Basically: childhood, fear, stupidity and nostalgia… with swearing and whales.
