    3-25 Kari Martindale Show Notes In this episode, Marybeth and Deb are excited to interview poet and spoken word artist Kari Martindale! Kari has performed across the country and at the White House. She has been published in a number of literary journals and anthologies, earned an honorable mention in the 2024 annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, and been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. She sits on the Board of Maryland Writers’ Association and is former co-editor of their literary journal, Pen-in-Hand. Kari was a writer-in-residence at Château d’Orquevaux in Orquevaux, France, in January 2024, where she and Marybeth met. She has served on literary judging panels for Maryland State Arts Council and Poetry Out Loud, as a volunteer judge for annual slam competitions, and on selection committees for poetry contests and anthologies. She is an instructor for Armed Services Arts Partnership.     Development Director of The Flower City Arts Center, Rochester, NY, Joe is deeply committed to the idea of “art for all.” He is a poet, musician, and visual artist. Joe has worked as a music producer and a teaching artist. In those capacities, he has nurtured students of many ages in the areas of music production, vocal performance, musical theater, spoken word and slam poetry, and other artistic endeavors. Joe’s work as an educator and artist focuses on social justice, political activism, personal transformation, financial literacy, social consciousness, and healing. He holds a BA in Psychology from SUNY Empire State College. His passion for the natural world leads him to wilderness survival excursions, mountaineering, meteorology, and storm chasing.     MIRLA CRISTE has written, directed, choreographed, vocal-coached, produced, designed, composed for and performed in many years of professional film, television, concert dance, and the dramatic and musical stage. Before making her Broadway debut in the original cast of Miss Saigon, Mirla played lead and featured roles in a variety of classical and contemporary dramas, musicals, films and commercials. Mirla has theatre degrees from Oberlin College and the University of California Irvine, and has designed and taught acting, voice and movement courses, full- and part-time, for a number of theatre programs all over the country. A pillar of Wilmington, North Carolina’s theatre Community, she has directed, choreographed and performed in theatre productions with a number of area organizations. Mirla has been nominated for an Encore Magazine Award, a Thalian Association Award and eight Wilmington Theatre Awards in a variety of categories, with four wins. Mirla has a variety of projects upcoming, on both stage and screen.
