• Three Books That Shaped Me
    Feb 19 2026

In this episode, I share three books that shaped my life during critical moments:

    1. Succulent Wild Woman: Dancing with Your Wonder-Full Self by SARK
    2. Black Feminist Thought: Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of Empowerment by Patricia Hill Collins
    3. Being Peace by Thich Nhat Hanh

Each of these books connects to core pillars of my life and leadership: creativity, critical thinking/a commitment to social justice, and mindfulness.

Have you read these books? Which books have shaped your life and reflect your values?

  • Poetry, Stories, and a Way to Help: Featuring Blind by Harry Kemp
    Jan 29 2026

In this episode, I share a poem that’s stayed with me since high school, wander through stories about creativity, leadership, comedy, and ethical storytelling, and offer a few behind-the-scenes updates on what’s coming next for the podcast. I also share a concrete way to support a family impacted by ICE detention, as a reminder to do what we can, where we are. Thank you for being along for the journey.

  • ICE, Social Media & Doing What We Can Where We Are
    Jan 15 2026

This episode is an unpolished and unscripted reflection of how I'm understanding the current moment. I share how I’m making sense of the current news cycle, the ongoing reality of ICE raids, and the violence and fear impacting our communities. I talk about how my academic work studying law enforcement and policing, my experiences documenting police activity, and my life as a mother shape the way I’m holding this moment.

I weave in a discussion of social media and how I'm feeling about it right now, as well as examples from social media that are influencing me in various ways.

    In this episode, I:

    • Name what’s happening with ICE and the impact on families and communities.
    • Explore the tension between staying informed and getting pulled into social media outrage cycles.
    • Talk about doing what you can, where you are—locally and nationally.
    • Reflect on parenting for democracy--encouraging critical thinking: questioning authority, seeking multiple sources, and more.
    • Share the importance of presence, connection, and grounded action.

I also share a practice I’m returning to: a New Moon social media fast (Jan 15–21)—stepping away from Facebook and Instagram to reset and reconnect. You’re welcome to join me.

In this episode, I talk with one of my best friends, the Honorable Jeannine Pearce. Jeannine is a former Long Beach City Council member, mom, community leader, and scholar.

Jeannine shares some of her personal story, which includes many traumatic experiences, as well as experiences of deep love and passions that shape the person she is today. We talk about community organizing, parenting and co-parenting, intentional friendships, practices that support resilience and growth, and integrity in leadership, among many other topics.

This conversation will leave you inspired and intrigued, and I hope it fills your cup.

  • How I Set (and Actually Met!) a Big Goal in 2025
    Jan 1 2026

In this episode, I’m using goal-setting as a very thin excuse to talk about one of the most concrete goals I set in 2025—and actually met: completing 130 workouts. Yes, there’s a little bragging. Mostly humble.

The year started very slowly, fell way behind by June, and then picked up real momentum in the second half—until I hit my goal before Christmas.

    I share about:

    • Setting a goal that’s clear, flexible, and meaningful
    • Why visual tracking mattered
    • How support, community, and rhythm showed up over time
    • Letting go of “one right way,” especially when energy changes with the seasons

This is the most tangible example of a goal I set and met in 2025—and I’m sharing it not because I think everyone should do 130 workouts, but because I hope you find some nuggets of inspiration to help you achieve your goals.
