Champions for Children: The Save the Children NZ Podcast

Welcome to Champions for Children, the podcast where we bring you real stories from the frontline of change. Each episode, we sit down with the people working to create a better future for children - whether through humanitarian aid, child protection, healthcare, education, or advocacy.

From crisis zones to policy changes, we explore the challenges, victories, and the people behind the work that protects, empowers, and uplifts children in Aotearoa and around the world. Hear first hand from humanitarian workers, local changemakers, and global advocates about what it takes to fight for every child's right to survive, learn, and be heard.

  • Alpine Odyssey Aotearoa: An Interview With Huw Kingston
    Oct 21 2025

Champions for Children is a podcast produced by Save the Children New Zealand that celebrates our stories and programmes creating positive lasting change for and with children.

Episode 3 is an interview with adventurer and fundraiser, Huw Kingston, one half of Alpine Odyssey Aotearoa - alongside his friend Laurence Mote. Huw and Laurence recently completed an incredible journey the length of Aotearoa - skiing every ski field in New Zealand and travelling by bike and foot from the far north to the deep south. Their mission was to raise funds for Save the Children to help build climate-resilient classrooms in Vanuatu, supporting children whose education is being disrupted by climate change.

Recorded in Wellington during a brief break after completing the North Island leg of their journey, this episode captures Huw's reflections on the challenges, highlights, and purpose behind Alpine Odyssey Aotearoa - and adventure grounded in endurance, community, and hope.
