Percussionist and composer Shamou lived in Portland from the early 2000’s to 2016 and had a profound impact on the local music scene. He settled in Maine after getting involved with the Bates Dance Festival in Lewiston, ME, where he was a musician in residence from 1998-2017. He passed away in September 2024. This single episode program, created and hosted by longtime WMPG DJ Barb Truex, is a remembrance of his musical life from his time in Boston (early 90’s), Maine, and his final stop in North Carolina (2016-2024). Several of his most important collaborators have contributed their memories of working with Shamou. Surrounding these memories is a selection of music from his CD releases and special projects.
