About this listen
In every ten minutes, someone needs blood donation in Kenya. Kenya needs about 500,000 units of blood annually for patients. Unfortunately, Kenya collects less than 40 percent of what is n needed. Out of the little we collect, we still go ahead and lose most of it to expiry and other wastages. According to the team leader at Damu Sasa Aron Ogunde, Kenya loses between 800 –1000 units to expiry every quarter. Lack of available blood means that the patients in need of blood pays for it with their own lives.
