Christmas time is here! If you’re living here in the south of France, I’m sure you can already taste christmas in the air, no matter which part of Provence you’re in! Since I’m sure you can buy or make different traditional french desserts and meals thanks to your friends, family or our dearest google, I instead wanted to taste what christmas is like as a feeling for expats living here.

I’ve found that it’s quite a sensitive subject with two rather opposite perspectives. For one, Christmas represents joy and the lucky conflict of choosing with whom to spend it with, whereas for another it’s a time of some pain where loneliness has a seat at the table.

No matter which category you relate with, it’s a significant period in Provence where we reflect on our years that have gone and will come, and celebrate its arrival in our own unique way.
