Six String Hayride Ep. 66. Crap OR Classic #1 1967-1969

The Country Music Association Awards (CMA) begin in 1967 as Country Music becomes Big Business and more commercially successful than ever.

Country Music Stars are getting TV Shows, doing movies, and selling more concert tickets and merchandise. "Countrypolitan", a smoother sound typified through the use of lush string arrangements with a real orchestra and often background vocals provided by a choir, gains popularity on records like "Galveston" and "Make the World Go Away". Chris and Jim go back in the Hayride Time Machine and examine the awards, hits, and success of the late 1960's and check in on what they got right and what music failed to stand the test of time. The past is not always better and the flavor of the month may quickly become that milk you forgot in the back of the fridge. We are back from our Winter Hibernation and ready to fix musical history wherever needed.

Six String Hayride Episode 64. Our Farewell to Steve Cropper and Year's End for 2025. Chris and Jim discuss Country and Rock Music News from 2025 and offer our respect to the memory of Memphis Music Legend Steve Cropper. Chris offers his own Tequila Sunrise Recipe and Jim notices that Gene Autry enters the hit music charts every Christmas with his great collection of Santa Themed Favorites. We're looking forward to all the usual Hayride Fun in 2026 while introducing a "Is it Commercial Crap OR Musical Classic" series in January. Six String Hayride Episode 63. Third Anniversary Show Trick or Treat. Chris and Jim celebrate the Hayride's Third Anniversary and a little Halloween Music Fun. We finally answer some cards, letters, and emails from Hayride listeners. We finally reveal the Legend of Chris and June Carter's Sausage Cheese Balls in all its cheesy glory. Jim talks about the stuff Chris doesn't, we share some spooky weird covers of George Jones Songs, there's a good Bourbon Cocktail recipe from the John Wayne Cocktail guide, and a few good Halloween music suggestions.
