• How To Do Something That's Really Effing Hard
    May 24 2024

Millions of people all over the world are caregivers, spending their own time and energy to help a loved one with an illness or disability function on a daily basis. In my case, it means caring for my wife who is in need of a new set of lungs.

Whether it's caregiving, a career change, wanting to be a starting pitcher, or just getting through today, there are commonalities in the struggle to achieve. In this episode, I've tried to share everything I know about how to fight the good fight. I hope it can help anyone who needs the help.

    Be well out there, everyone.

A new year is difficult for your everyday caregiver to look forward to. In this episode, I'll look to the past for clues as to how to carry on into the future, with a little help from Van Halen.

Happy New Year, my friends. Be well.

Trigger Warning: There is some talk of physical abuse and trauma in this episode.

This version was arranged, performed and recorded by me. The previous month was a lot of stress about the impending holiday season. A great deal of that anxiety was channeled into finally making my own version of my favorite Christmas song. I hope it can bring you all a few minutes of peace.

From me and Ethel to all of you, Merry Christmas.

Hello friends. We're gonna take a break this holiday season from all the whining and crying, the whinging and cringing. Instead, DJ Milton here is going to bring you a selection of my own recordings of holiday songs (that I'm pretty sure are in the public domain). This one is a holiday story set to a bit of piano, something to bring a few minutes of chill to your holiday. I hope you enjoy it.

We here at KRVG Radio wish you a happy holidays. Be well, everyone.

For this episode, I went out into the woods with a very heavy heart. No script, no plan, just the need to share some hard news and ponder it for a little while.

    Be well, everyone.

In this episode, I'll take a closer look at the reality of spousal caregiving by way of telling you the story of my first heartbreak. We'll look at why spousal caregiving is a very difficult gig, and how a lesson I learned in the past is making things harder today. Lastly, I'll give you my best pitch as to why each and every caregiver should be in therapy, and how to go about starting if you're not.

Sometimes we caregivers can't get to all the things. Here's some homemade ambience for when you need to step back for a few minutes. I hope you find it relaxing.

    Cheers, everyone.

    A few personal notes

It's something of a point of pride that, while I do use computers and MIDI sounds in my recordings, the music comes out of my own mind/spirit, and every note is played with my own hands on a guitar, keyboard, drums, the dog's belly, or whatever might be nearby.

I recorded the nature sounds myself as well, which was way more fun than I'd have imagined. I tried to interview a heron and a raccoon, but their publicists refused to verify the quotes, so what are you gonna do?

This was my first go at making anything like this. It has its flaws, but I enjoyed both the process and the result. There's a good chance I'll make more of these in the future.
