  • An African Take on the Valuable Life Lessons from the Late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Life and Legacy
    Feb 4 2024

We, at Kĩriakũ Waves Radio, have taken the time to honor the legacy of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King's legacy continues to inspire and impact the global struggle for human rights and equality.

One of the most inspiring speeches to the motherland Africa is “The Birth of A New Nation”, a Sermon Delivered at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama on April 7, 1957. The basis of this momentous speech, is his visit to Ghana in 1957 (SHOW MLKJr_06) to attend the nation’s independence celebrations. The experience deeply moved King, seeing parallels between Ghana's liberation from colonial rule and the civil rights struggle in the United States. This trip reinforced his belief in the global nature of the struggle for freedom and justice. King expressed solidarity with Africans struggling against colonialism and seeking independence.

He recognized the parallels between the civil rights struggle in the United States and the fight against colonial rule in Africa. King believed that this shared struggle against oppression and for equality and self-determination created a sense of kinship.

In this podcast, we pick a few lessons from Dr. King.

  • Telling our Story Together: The Case of the Ethiopian Finance Officer!
    Mar 2 2023

“Telling our Story Together: The Case of the Ethiopian Finance Officer!” One of the most interesting comments I have read or heard on social media is that “If Christianity is your religion and you are an African, then you are mentally colonized!” Is this true? I do not think so! Christianity just like African Traditional Religion(s) is an African religion. European Christianity is what is a latecomer in Africa. We must decolonize our perception of religious history in Africa. Have you ever wondered why Africa and Africans are mentioned so many times in the Bible, and positively so?
