About this listen
Terence, also known as Publius Terentius Afer, was a Roman playwright born around 195 BCE in Carthage, North Africa (modern-day Tunisia). Not much is known about his early life, including his family background or education. It is believed that he was brought to Rome as a slave during his youth and was later freed by his master, a senator named Terentius Lucanus.
