About this listen
Electric Fence
I was talking to my dad today and he started laughing over a story from my childhood. As he told the story from his perspective, the memory from MY perspective came back to me clearly.
One chore was clearing undergrowth from beneath the several miles of electric fence we had. We did not have weed eaters but instead a long-bladed, hand operated weed cutters. It was always a hot, boring and sweaty job. When done “properly”, the process would need repeating every few weeks as the grass and weeds regrew.
My grandparents gifted me a handheld AM radio for Christmas. I found that if the fence had a short, as I got closer to it, the rhythmic AM radio static would get louder until the short was clearly visible. I would then trim the offending item and get back to something more fun.
I thought it was a brilliant way to reduce my work load and solve an immediate problem, but I learned today that my dad was not as amused at my discovery!
