About this listen

Grace has had it rough. She’s spent thousands on training and years in customer service. Like most actors her life is a perpetual cycle of waiting. Join Grace as she tries to uncover the mysteries of the industry and why she isn’t famous yet. Some may call this investigative journalism, others may call it a waste of breath. But who can blame her, she’s just trying to pass the time, while she sits in the waiting room.

This week in The Actor’s Waiting Room, I’m joined by actor and acting coach Adele James.

We talk about her experience working on BBC's Casualty and Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra, but more than that, we talk about what it means to be an empowered actor - especially in an industry that doesn’t always make that easy.

Adele shares her journey through training, opportunity, confidence, and visibility, and we chat honestly about finding your voice, trusting yourself, and learning how to take up space in this career without losing yourself along the way.

This conversation isn’t about overnight success or quick wins -it’s about longevity, self-belief, and staying grounded while navigating TV, streaming, and the wider industry.

January always makes me feel like I should be doing more - setting huge goals, getting my life together, and somehow knowing exactly where this year is going. And every year, that energy lasts about five minutes before I feel exhausted.

So in this episode, I’m talking about why I’m not going full steam ahead this January. Instead, I’m letting it be a slower start - a bit of a warm-up - so I don’t burn myself out before the year’s even properly begun.

I chat about why traditional resolutions don’t really work for actors, how I’m thinking about goals in a more relaxed way, and why starting slowly might actually help us stay in this career longer.

If you’re feeling behind already, overwhelmed, or quietly panicking about what this year is meant to look like - this one’s for you.

Take a seat in the waiting room. There’s no rush.

  • Ep 37. A Very Waiting Room Christmas
    Dec 8 2025

    Send us a text

Welcome to the Christmas special of The Actor’s Waiting Room! It’s just me this week - armed with a festive drink, Christmas film recommendations and an actors survival toolkit for the holidays.

In this solo episode, I’m diving into what Christmas actually feels like when you’re an actor - the joy, the chaos, the family interrogation, and the annual “should I retrain?” moment that always hits somewhere between the leftover’s and the Boxing Day sales.
    I’ll be chatting about:

    - How I attempt to survive Christmas as an actor without losing my mind
    - Acting lessons hiding inside classic Christmas films - from Emma Thompson’s heartbreaking subtlety in Love Actually to the warmth and sincerity at the heart of Miracle on 34th Street
    - And my own little 2025 wrap-up: what I’ve learned, what surprised me, and what I’m hoping for in the new year

Think of this episode as a cosy Christmas chat between friends - honest, warm, a bit chaotic, and very Waiting Room.
So grab your Christmas drink of choice, get comfy, and let’s celebrate the festive season together.
