  • Story Time: Anansi's Goatman
    Apr 14 2023

An oldie but a goodie, a classic Creepypasta that re-cemented the Goatman into the collective unconscious of the internet. Also a huge factor into Yadira's perfectly rational fear of the woods. We hope you enjoy this reading! Please like, share, and subscribe!

  • Junji Ito: The one where we gush about him - Horror Literature
    Mar 29 2023

Did you know that Netflix adapted Junji Ito's manga into an anime?!....Because we certainly didn't!

So far, there have been 2 anime adaptations of Junji Ito's manga. The first one was promoted by Crunchyroll and turned out to be quite the disappointment with poor animation quality. The second adaptation was much better, but Netflix didn't promote it!

Join the hosts, Yadira and Christina as they express:

    1) their disappointment in Netflix for not promoting "Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre", and

2)their love for Junji Ito, an icon in the horror manga space, and a pioneer for Japanese horror manga in the U.S.

Junji Ito was born in Japan in 1963. He was working as a dental technician, when he decided to pursue his passion drawing horror manga. His passion became his career in 1987 when he won the Kazuo Umezu Award for a short story that would become one of his most well-known works to date. Fast forward, and Ito wins Best Adaptation From Another Medium for Frankenstein: Junji Ito Story Collection during the 2019 Eisner Awards (the Oscars of comics). Then, in the 2021 Eisner Awards, Ito wins both the Best U.S. Edition of International Material-Asia for Remina, and Best Writer/Artist for both Remina and Venus in the Blind Spot.

We sincerely hope you decide to read some of Junji Ito's work after listening to our episode if you aren't already a fan. However, if you are a fan, maybe this episode will introduce you to some other titles you will enjoy reading :D (Note: We aren't affiliated with VIZ media, so we aren't making any money from trying to get listeners to read Junji Ito's work. We just truly love what he does!)

Thank you for listening. Remember to like and subscribe and leave us a rating! It truly does help us out and we hope you enjoy us enough to support us. Also, follow us on social media! We're a bit lonely there and would love to start doing things and interacting with you all.
