  • 1 Samuel 4 – The Ark Is Captured and Israel Defeated | Bible Study
    Jul 17 2026

    Welcome to today’s Bible study.

In this episode of 1 Samuel 4 (KJV), we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of 1 Samuel as Israel suffers a devastating defeat because they trust in religious symbols rather than the Lord Himself. This chapter highlights the consequences of disobedience, the holiness of God, and the danger of empty religion.

The chapter begins with Israel going to battle against the Philistines. After an initial defeat, the Israelites bring the ark of the covenant into the camp, believing it will guarantee victory. Instead, the Philistines defeat Israel again, capture the ark, and kill Hophni and Phinehas.

When the news reaches Eli, he falls backward from his seat, breaks his neck, and dies after hearing that the ark has been taken. At the same time, the wife of Phinehas gives birth to a son and names him Ichabod, saying that the glory has departed from Israel because the ark of God has been captured.

The chapter concludes with Israel mourning the loss of the ark and the deaths of its leaders, demonstrating that God's presence cannot be manipulated and that true security is found only through faithful obedience to Him.

Through this chapter, we see key lessons about trusting God rather than outward rituals, the seriousness of disobedience, the holiness of God, and the consequences of rejecting His ways.

Together, we will study this chapter verse by verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about faith, obedience, God's holiness, and trusting Him above all else.

In this episode of 1 Samuel 3 (KJV), we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of 1 Samuel as God calls Samuel to serve as His prophet. This chapter highlights God's calling, the importance of listening to His voice, and His faithfulness to reveal His Word.

The chapter begins with the young Samuel ministering before the Lord under Eli's guidance during a time when God's word was rare. One night, the Lord calls Samuel by name. After mistakenly responding to Eli several times, Samuel learns to answer, "Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth."

God gives Samuel a message of judgment against Eli's household because of the ongoing sins of his sons and Eli's failure to restrain them. Though difficult, Samuel faithfully delivers God's message to Eli the following morning.

The chapter concludes with Samuel growing in favor before the Lord as all Israel recognizes him as a true prophet. The Lord continues to reveal Himself to Samuel through His Word, establishing him as His chosen servant.

  • 1 Samuel 2 – Hannah’s Prayer, Eli’s Sons’ Wickedness, and Samuel’s Growth | Bible Study
    Jul 15 2026

    Welcome to today’s Bible study.

In this episode of 1 Samuel 2 (KJV), we continue our verse-by-verse journey through the book of 1 Samuel as Hannah praises the Lord and the contrast between faithful service and corrupt leadership becomes clear. This chapter highlights God's sovereignty, His justice, and His desire for faithful obedience.

The chapter begins with Hannah offering a prayer of praise, declaring God's holiness, power, and authority over all people. She rejoices in His ability to humble the proud, exalt the humble, and faithfully provide for those who trust in Him.

The chapter then contrasts the godly upbringing of young Samuel with the sinful behavior of Eli's sons, Hophni and Phinehas, who abuse their priestly position and dishonor the Lord. Because of their persistent wickedness, God announces judgment upon Eli's household while Samuel continues to grow in favor before the Lord.

The chapter concludes with a prophet delivering God's message of coming judgment against Eli's family and the promise that He will raise up a faithful priest who will serve according to His heart and purpose.

Through this chapter, we see key lessons about God's holiness, faithful worship, the consequences of disobedience, righteous leadership, and His sovereign control over all things.

Together, we will study this chapter verse by verse, exploring its historical context, theological depth, and spiritual lessons about humility, obedience, faithful service, and trusting God's righteous judgment.
