  • The Gospel of John - Chapter 6:25-71
    May 10 2024

When the crowds find Jesus again, He teaches them about the true "bread of life" that satisfies spiritual hunger. Jesus declares that He is the bread of life and that only by believing in Him can one have eternal life. This teaching causes grumbling among the Jews who struggle with Jesus' claims of coming from heaven. Jesus goes on to say that His words are Spirit and life, but recognizes that some of His disciples do not truly believe. This leads to many disciples turning away from following Him, though the Twelve remain firm in their faith that Jesus is the Holy One of God.

This passage recounts the famous miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000 people with just five loaves of bread and two fish. After seeing this incredible sign, the crowds attempt to make Jesus king by force, but He withdraws. Later, the disciples get into a boat and encounter a storm on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus comes to them, walking on the water, demonstrating His divine power over nature. When they reach the other side, the crowds follow Jesus, amazed by His miracle of the loaves.

  • The Gospel of John - Chapter 5
    Apr 26 2024

In John 5, Jesus heals a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years by telling him to pick up his mat and walk on the Sabbath. This act of healing on the Sabbath infuriates the Jewish leaders who accuse Jesus of breaking the law. Jesus responds by making the profound claim that He is equal with God the Father and has the authority to give life, judge, and receive honor just as the Father does. He declares that though the Jewish leaders study the Scriptures diligently, they fail to realize that the Scriptures testify about Him as the Messiah. This chapter highlights Jesus' divine claims of equality with the Father which further angers the Jewish authorities and sets the stage for increasing conflict between Jesus and the religious establishment.
