  • May 16 | The Consequences of Sin
    May 16 2026

Today’s reading from 2 Kings 24–25 and John 5:1–24 invites us to reflect on the reality that sin carries consequences, that spiritual drift eventually produces destruction, and yet that God continues to offer mercy and restoration even in humanity’s brokenness. Both passages reveal the contrast between life shaped by rebellion and life transformed through surrender to God.

In 2 Kings 24–25, the long-developing consequences of Judah’s rebellion finally reach their devastating conclusion as Jerusalem falls to Babylon, the Temple is destroyed, and the people are carried into exile. The passage reveals that sin is never merely private or temporary; when left unchecked, it gradually reshapes hearts, communities, and entire generations.

In John 5, Jesus heals a man who had been suffering for thirty-eight years and then confronts deeper spiritual realities beyond physical healing alone. The chapter reveals Christ not only as a healer but also as the One bearing divine authority, offering life, judgment, and restoration to those willing to respond to Him in faith.

Together, these passages remind us that while sin leads toward destruction, God continues pursuing people with truth, mercy, warning, and the invitation to experience real life through Christ rather than continuing down paths that ultimately bring spiritual ruin.

  • May 15 | Don’t Stop Believing
    May 15 2026

Today’s reading from 2 Kings 22–23 and John 4:31–54 invites us to reflect on what genuine belief looks like when life feels uncertain, outcomes remain unclear, and faith requires trust before visible answers arrive. Both passages reveal people responding to God’s Word in ways that reshape their direction, priorities, and future.

In 2 Kings 22–23, King Josiah discovers the Book of the Law and responds with humility, repentance, and spiritual renewal. Rather than ignoring God’s Word or treating it casually, Josiah allows the truth to confront the nation's condition and lead him toward wholehearted reform. The passage reminds us that real belief does not remain passive but produces transformation and obedience.

In John 4, a desperate father comes to Jesus seeking healing for his dying son. Jesus speaks a simple promise, “Your son will live,” and the man begins the long journey home with nothing but the word of Christ to hold onto. Before seeing the miracle with his own eyes, he chooses to believe Jesus is trustworthy.

Together, these passages remind us that faith is often formed in the tension between God’s promise and what we can presently see. They invite us to continue trusting God’s character, His Word, and His faithfulness even in seasons when the outcome has not yet fully unfolded.

    PODCAST DESCRIPTION

Today’s readings from 2 Kings 19 and John 4:1–30 invite us to reflect on what happens when people finally reach the end of their own strength and discover that God alone can deliver, restore, and satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart. Both passages reveal people facing situations they cannot overcome on their own and encountering God in ways that completely reshape their understanding of Him.

In 2 Kings 19, Hezekiah faces overwhelming fear and pressure as Assyria threatens Jerusalem and openly mocks the God of Israel. Instead of trusting only in political strategy, military power, or human solutions, Hezekiah brings the crisis honestly before the Lord. The chapter reveals a God who hears the prayers of His people, responds to impossible situations, and delivers in ways human strength never could.

In John 4, Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well, someone carrying shame, brokenness, and spiritual thirst beneath the surface of her everyday life. Instead of rejecting her, Jesus moves toward her with truth, compassion, and the offer of “living water” that only He can provide. What begins as a private conversation becomes a moment of spiritual transformation and testimony.

Together, these passages remind us that God does not wait for people to have everything together before meeting them. He steps into fear, weakness, shame, and impossible circumstances to reveal Himself as Deliverer, Savior, and the only One who can truly satisfy the deepest thirst of the soul.
