Welcome to Episode 5 of the Caribbean Real Estate Podcast. During this week's podcast we're joined by Jermaine Rhudd to discuss the exciting real estate opportunities in the beautiful island of Antigua. 

Jermaine Rhudd is a Property Lawyer, Investor and Entrepreneur whose passion for real estate and fascination with technology was the inspiration behind him co-founding JMVI Realty.

JMVI Realty is the Caribbean’s first property start up to use both web-based and mobile applications to promote a real Estate Marketplace and a virtual Auction House from the convenience of a smartphone.

Having attained his Bachelors of Law from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill, Campus in 2010 and later reading Law at the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad, Mr. Rhudd was then called to the Bar of Antigua & Barbuda in November 2012. 

Mr. Rhudd then spent the next decade of his professional life practicing as a Conveyancing Attorney followed by active service with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda as the Country’s Deputy Registrar of Lands. 

Armed with a wide range of Real Estate experience from both public and private sectors coupled with his Entrepreneurial pursuits in founding and managing JMVI, Jermaine Rhudd is now a household name and a go-to resource in the Real Estate space having helped hundreds with housing whether from a Legal, Governmental, Consultancy or Sales perspective.

Jermaine is also a proud Rotarian and continues to give back to his Alma Mata, the St. Joseph’s Academy through service on the Board of Directors.

On this week's episode of the Caribbean Real Estate Podcast we're joined by Selwyn Cambridge to discuss his plans on enriching the entrepreneurial sector througout Barbados and the wider Caribbean by creating co-working/living spaces. 

Selwyn Cambridge is a serial entrepreneur and the founder and executive director of TEN Habitat, a non-profit organization based in Barbados which focuses on developing investor-ready firms and engaging the Caribbean diaspora to co-invest into them.

With a strong focus on nurturing global communities around Caribbean entrepreneurs, Selwyn founded the Caribbean Startup Summit, an annual event which connects a global startup community to regional entrepreneurs to share experiences and insights into starting and scaling viable ventures. Selwyn is a marketing and brand strategist by profession, with more than two decades of regional and international experience in the communications and marketing industry and have been credited with multiple American Advertising Federation Awards.

Selwyn has a passion for developing and driving initiatives to provide support to the regional startup community. This passion led to the creation of a business accelerator for startups, a co-working facility and innovation hub to bring entrepreneurs and corporations together in one space to work on solving industry challenges and the establishment of the Source Code Developer Academy, committed to nurturing more relevant tech talent coming out of the region.

Today our host and international real estate investor Dan Merriam is joined by Jamaican home contractor and builder Andre Allen. In episode 3 of the Caribbean Real Estate Podcast, Andre shares what it's like growing up in Jamaica, his start in the construction and architectural industry and how he leverages his skills to fulfil his passion for providing affordable housing solutions for Jamaicans.

Andre is currently the CEO of AJAWI Construction leading a team of architects, structural engineers and quantity surveyors to curate and create world-class communities for returning residents of the Jamaican diaspora. Andre first conceptualized the AJAWI Architectural & Construction Group in the final year of his studies at the Heart Trust NTA Vocational Training Development Institute. He envisioned a company that provided architecture support to Architects, Engineers, Developers, Homeowners, and other players within the industry, both in Jamaica and across the Caribbean.

Additionally, On the island of Jamaica Andre is a local celebrity and is recognized from the popular TV show The Innovators (season 5). Allen entered his small business AJAWI Construction into this small business competition and was voted the winner in 2014. Since then he's created a popular YouTube channel called AJAWI_TV where he assists returning residents to get well-needed advice on construction by industry professionals.

Cherita O’Dell is this week’s guest on the Caribbean Real Estate Podcast. Dan and Cherita had a great conversation about the real estate opportunities in Barbados and across the wider Caribbean. Cherita shared expert knowledge on how to maneuver the real estate industry in Barbados for first time home buyers, her personal journey on becoming a realtor and so much more.

Cherita O' dell has been given this award by the Barbados Estate Agents and Values Association for demonstrating the values that George Ramsay was known for and for having a track record of outstanding success. Cherita regularly sells developments, residential property, luxury property, commercial property, and executive and villa rentals.  She has developed a reputation for being one of the best real estate agents in the nation.

In the first episode of the Caribbean Real Estate Podcast, we meet the host of this podcast, Dan Merriam and his business partner and colleague Sandy Mackay.

Dan is a prolific real estate investor who has owned and operated residential and multi-family properties since 2011. He is recognized for earning above-market returns through targeted acquisitions and strategic development, reporting double-digit annualized returns on all projects. Dan has extensive knowledge in the investment acquisition process, conversions, construction management, property technology, digital transformation, and investment strategy.

Before investing in real estate, Dan worked in the retail, automotive and music industries, where he acquired and perfected transferable skills in sales, business management and finance. In 2011, Dan recognized the opportunity in real estate and, within 7 years, had successfully grown his portfolio in the Hamilton region to $15MM (CAD).

After researching global real estate opportunities, Dan identified promising potential in the Caribbean. As a result, he currently resides full-time in the Eastern Caribbean, where he continues to grow his international real estate portfolio and form new strategic partnerships.
