  • The Doha Film Institute's Qumra event decoded -- Part 2
    Jul 28 2025

In this episode, I'll explain some of the day to day activities during this year's Qumra event, organized by the Doha Film Institute, but also feature a wonderfully spontaneous interview with Hong Kong filmmaker Johnnie To, where he talks about trying to shoot in his beloved city. And I ask him what superhero movie he'd like to make -- his answer will leave you in awe.

Finally, there is also a beautiful interview with Mexican costume designer Anna Terrazas where she talks about her inspiration and where/how she got that cool straight line tattoo that she sports on her forearm. Listen in and don't forget to share it.

  • The Doha Film Institute's Qumra event decoded -- Part 1
    Jul 18 2025

In this episode, I take you deep into the annual DFI industry incubator, Qumra, held each spring in Doha, Qatar. Through one-on-one mentorship sessions, masterclasses by world cinema greats and screenings and meetups, Qumra helps to launch films people will be watching in Cannes, Venice and beyond.

This year, I spoke to the Masters there -- including recent Oscar winner Walter Salles, Malay filmmaker Lav Diaz and DoP Darius Khondji around the 7th Art, whether they'd ever make a superhero film and what films they remember watching as children. Listen in, for a cinematic adventure of a lifetime.
