What we see is that the main cause for people to move away from any kind of formal religious affiliation is their lack of belief in the teachings of the Church. So it's not that people have lost faith in the fact, that there could be a God, 60% of the unaffiliated still believe that there's a God. They just don't believe that the church can represent a version of the truth that's acceptable to them. So what is the truth? Who defines the truth? How is this happened? What truth has come and displace the truth of the judges? And surely, if one looks at the history of the last few decades, then the more acceptable truth. The truth that has discredited the church's truth, has been the truth of our scientists or physicists. Now if you speak to people in the unaffiliated group, the largest growing group in America and you ask them, who would you rather believe? Would you rather believe the church? Or would you rather believe a scientist, a physicist, then they're going to say to you, that they'd rather believe the physicist.
Now, underlying all of this underlying the strength of no longer believing in the teaching of the Church, is this whole concept of the correspondence of truth? Scientists have a theory called the correspondence theory of truth. So what does this mean? What this means is that your truth that you promote to the world has to correspond to the reality of the world. If your truth that you are promoting does not correspond to the reality that can be perceived, then by default, that version of the truth that you have loses its credibility.
