About this listen

Hello and welcome to The Grist Mill Podcast. I’m Ken Jones — businessperson, technology expert, educator, musician, and believer that how we do things matters as much as what we do.

This short episode isn’t about diving into a single big topic. Instead, I want to introduce you to the podcast itself — what it is, what you can expect, and why I’m excited to start this journey with you.

The idea for this series came out of my work and conversations about business, technology, and career growth. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats — teaching, running companies, working with clients across industries and countries — and I’ve always found that the best insights come from sharing experiences openly. A podcast seemed like the perfect space for that.

So what’s The Grist Mill about? Well, just like a mill grinds grain into flour, I want this show to grind down complex ideas — business, technology, culture, even sports and music — and turn them into something useful, practical, and hopefully inspiring.

In this podcast, Ken demonstrates a music composition technique where you start a song in the same way and let can take it in many different directions. The specifics here are that a song begins with a really simple introduction, the repetitive playing of an A followed by a G. From that point, the podcast demonstrates the initial composition up to the verse of four different chord patterns which are actually songs. The purpose of the podcast is to remind all of us that things can start simply, and creative individuals can take them in many many different directions, based on what they're hoping to accomplish and convey within their creative works. Please be mindful there are a few missed notes during the musical demonstrations, it is the policy of this podcast to always accept first takes to make the podcasts original and authentic (and to avoid obsessing over them), so please forgive those few errors and focus on the larger scale messages of the podcast.

In this episode, which was a tad rushed at the end because Biscuit, Ken's dog, was scratching at the door :), Ken reviews some of the typical items to be aware of during a typical business week. This includes earnings releases, key product announcements or speeches from CEO's, Federal Reserve Bank actions or meeting minutes, and discussions via the government relating to important trade topics such as tariffs.
