  • Sitcom Meets Reality: The Dual Worlds of Kevin Can F**K Himself
    Nov 12 2024

Kevin Can F**K Himself is a genre-bending series that cleverly merges the contrasting worlds of sitcom and drama. Set in a familiar sitcom format, the story follows Allison McRoberts (Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek), the disgruntled wife of Kevin, played by Eric Peterson. Kevin embodies the typical carefree, oblivious sitcom husband, while Allison is trapped in a life that feels like a caricature of itself—until she steps away from Kevin’s world and into a grittier reality where her frustrations and dreams come to life. Maura joined as an editor for Season 2, working on episodes 2, 5, and 8. Having previously watched the show, she was drawn to its unique challenge: creating continuity across vastly different tones, moving seamlessly between the broad, laugh-tracked sitcom format and a grounded, introspective drama. Her approach to editing focused on emphasizing Allison's disillusionment, choosing shots that highlighted the stark contrast between Allison’s “sitcom life” and her reality. Balancing humor with darker themes, Maura collaborated closely with the showrunner Valerie Armstrong to bring the show’s distinct vision to life, crafting moments that accentuate both comedy and the show’s underlying tension. Maura also talks about her role as editor on Netflix's Nobody Wants This.

Maura Corey, ACE is a picture editor based in Los Angeles. Maura started her career as an assistant editor in commercials and moved her way up into the editor’s chair. After a year of working in commercials, the desire to tell stories for over thirty seconds, coupled with a love of improv comedy, she turned her editing talents to long format. She landed a show that combined those two elements and never looked back. Throughout her career, Maura has worked on everything from comedy to drama to documentaries. She received 3 Emmy nominations for her work on The Oscars and 1 Eddy nomination for her work on the documentary series “Beyond Scared Straight” and has had the pleasure of editing projects for Warner Brothers, ABC, and Netflix. Maura’s current projects include the Netflix comedy “Nobody Wants This,” “Gen V” a drama for Amazon, and “Acapulco,” a comedy for Apple.
