  • ParkRun Jim no longer obsessed with records but still putting in those miles
    Feb 4 2026

To lose a few pounds, Jim Clinton took to the treadmill as his 50th birthday approached. From there, he graduated to the first ParkRuns in Ireland. Having been biten by the bug, he went on to become the first person in Ireland to run 500 ParkRuns. Today, while acknowledging that he is no longer obsessed with his ParkRun record — others have overtaken him on the listings — he remains a tireless advocate for the individual benefits of running. A pacer at more SPAR Craic 10Ks then he might care to remember, Jim will be back in the fray this March 17.

  • Gladys Ganiel on a life on the run
    Feb 4 2026
A lecturer at Queen's University Belfast, an author and a homemaker, somehow Gladys Ganiel finds time to go to the gym, train young athletes and run up to 100 miles a week. Ahead of the 2026 SPAR Craic 10K, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir chats with the native of Maine in the USA who is best known locally as a champion road runner. (Just to note, while marathon master Meb Keflezighi and Ganiel were at high school in the US at the same time, they weren't at the same high school - contrary to what I suggested. MÓM)
