The Nate Lull Podcast presents: The Story of Slow Joe Doyle. Nate and co-host Rich Turnbull uncover the story of a Major League Baseball pitcher from the early 1900s whose journey eventually brought him right to our own backyard. In this special edition, the guys explore the life and legacy of “Slow Joe” Doyle, known for his deliberate pace on the mound during baseball’s early days. From his time in the big leagues to the famous baseball card mix-up that made his name legendary among collectors, the conversation transports listeners to a different era of the game. It also looks at Doyle’s life after baseball and how he eventually settled in Tannersville, New York, in the eastern part of Section IV. Nate connects with P.J. Harmer, who has worn many hats in the local media world. P.J. is well known for his time as a sports staff writer at The Daily Star in Oneonta and for his freelance work with newspapers and magazines across the country. He now works as a Public Information Specialist for DCMO BOCES, serving the Sidney and Walton school districts. P.J. is also an adjunct instructor at SUNY Delhi. In this episode, the guys discuss the state of local media, share some great memories, and dive into mental health, including why P.J. made important changes and the advice he now shares with others.

Nate visits with Oneonta graduate Bruce Mistler, who is in his first year of college baseball at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York. A 2025 OHS grad, Bruce played in a Jackets program that enjoyed major success in recent years, including Section IV titles in 2022, 2024, and 2025. He talks about the recruiting process and what helped guide his college decision, along with the unique challenge of wanting to both pitch and hit at the next level. Bruce also looks back on some of his favorite memories with the Oneonta baseball program.
