About this listen

Hello Seekers!

I have been inspired a lot lately by the 1960 & 70 occult paperback books that are finding their way into my collection. So I thought I would dedicate an episode to them :)

Before WitchTok or Occult Tok or paranormal YoutTube, there was the "paperback occult boom."

In the 60s & 70s cheap, mass- market books on witchcraft, Satanisim, psychic powers, UFOs, hautings and ceremoial magic flooded bus stations, drug stores and mall bookstores; turning ancient hidden knowledge into mainstream consumer culture almost overnight.

In this episode of Occulture Shock, we break down how paperback publishing transformed the occult forever, sparked public fueds between famous witches and Satanists, helped create the modern :pop occultisim," and ultimatly laid part of the ground work for the Satanic Panic that followed in the 1980s.

I hope you enjoy the episode and, as always, thanks for getting weird with us!
