  • 044: TV vs. Film Writing (The Journey vs. The Destination) and the Battle for Warner Bros.
    Dec 17 2025

Happy Holidays, Scribe Tribe! Rob is out this week, but Mike and Skylar are here to hold things down. In this week's episode, the guys talk about a recent quote from writer/director Ryan Coogler (Sinners, Black Panther) where he discusses how a conversation with a writer friend of his helped him prepare for his upcoming reboot of The X Files franchise.

In the quote, Coogler says his friend showed him how a movie is "the biggest moment" in a character's life up until that point, but a TV show is about the journey to that point. Mike and Skylar break that down further and share their thoughts on if they agree and if/how the rest of us writers can use that same sort of framing when crafting our own works.

They'll also break down the latest in entertainment news, including:

    • Netflix and Paramount duking it out to buy Warner Bros. (and what it means for the industry and audiences)
    • Golden Globe nominations (and snubs) have been announced
    • And more!
