In the village of Rangapuram lived Narayana, a wealthy but extremely stingy landlord who refused to help anyone in need. Next to his mansion lived a poor young girl named Lakshmi and her mother. When her mother fell gravely ill, Lakshmi—having no other way to afford medical treatment—approached Narayana to beg for financial help. Coldhearted as he was, Narayana harshly turned her away.
Soorayya, a kindhearted laborer working for Narayana, witnessed this and was deeply moved by Lakshmi's plight. Helpless and heartbroken, Lakshmi went to a ruined temple and prayed earnestly to God for a miracle. Wanting to help her without making a scene, Soorayya placed his own meager savings inside the sanctum sanctorum and spoke from behind the deity, pretending to be the voice of God. He told Lakshmi to take the money and treat her mother. Lakshmi joyfully retrieved the money, cured her mother, and the villagers believed God had truly intervened.
Moral:
True greatness lies not in having vast riches like Narayana, who lacks compassion, but in selfless kindness like Soorayya, who helps others within his means without seeking praise or recognition.
