  • Chris Hinshaw - Endurance Coach
    Jan 19 2021

In this episode, I sat down with Chris Hinshaw - coach to hundreds of athletes around the world, most notably the top finishers at the CrossFit Games the past several years. He's coached Mat Fraser, Rich Froning, Katrín Davíðsdóttir... the list goes on. We talk about how he started coaching all of these wonderful athletes and how he had to prove himself to get there. You'll quickly see why Chris is a thought-leader in the aerobic/endurance arena - he's a wealth of knowledge and never stops learning. His attention to detail is really what blew my mind and made me want to start intentionally tracking my fitness progress to improve and get better.

In our chat, we spoke about how Chris tested a new carbon fiber sole from Adidas. Here are the results of his test using the data collected from his Garmin watch.

  • Clemens Limberg - BoxRox
    Jul 9 2020

This episode was recorded in July of 2019 😮 . However, in this episode I spoke with Clemens Limberg, formerly of BoxRox.com. I say formerly because Clemens is no longer with BoxRox, he is actually traveling across the country of Australia (lucky guy). The main points we discuss in the episode are high traffic blogs - BoxRox.com at the time was getting 1.3 million views per month and we dig into topics like analytics, google amp, and Alexa page rank.

A few of the links we spoke about:

    • boxrox.com
    • Google AMP

Ben Aiken is a fitness trainer, certified CrossFit coach, and all around fantastic human being. We sat down and spoke about his journey through fitness, coaching, and fitness for the everyday desk worker.

He gives me some great tips on how to deal with stress, being tight, and most importantly - SLEEP. We get into a lot of great information for people just getting into fitness and for those who have been doing it for a long time.

One great thing he mentions in the interview is the WHOOP fitness tracker.

When we started talking about movement and Capoeira, Ben mentions is Ido Portal.

  • Wes Bos
    Apr 30 2019

This episode is sponsored by VueSchool. Check out vueschool.io./thestrongweb for 20% off an annual subscription. VueSchool is what I personally use to take deep dives into Vue.js. I've used it for over a year now - it's the perfect way to learn how to use Vue.js. Whether you need it in your current tech stack, or what to build an entire application with Vue, this is the absolute best way to learn.

In this last episode of my Creator Series, I sat down with Wes Bos to discuss how he's built a career on offering web development courses. We discuss a wide array of things like how he got there and what keeps him motivated. Wes basically defines a "Content Creator" and someone that has truly learned how to make a living by doing it.

You can find Wes on Twitter or his website. He also has a podcast called Syntax.fm

  • David Heinemeier Hansson
    Mar 14 2019

The co-founder of Basecamp and creator of Ruby on Rails is with me on the show today. David Heinemeier Hansson and I sat down to talk about how he creates, works out, his philosophy on work and life, and what's it's like to write 4 books! Side note: this episode may change the way you think about a lot of things. It sure did for me.

I'm not going to write a lot of show notes for this episode because you just have to listen. It's a great conversation where David dives deep into each question I ask him.

  • Dave Rupert - Creator Series Part 3
    Feb 21 2019

This is the third installation of my Creators Series where I interview web professionals who consistently create content for the web. I sat down one early Monday morning to chat with Dave Rupert about life in Austin and at his company, Paravel. Dave is also the co-host of the Shop Talk Show podcast which has been around for 8 years now. Dave is about as genuine as they come and it really shows in this interview.

One of the most interesting things we talk about is open source projects. He details a few examples of how they can really be a time commitment. I also really enjoyed his take on learning web programming plus the trajectory of his company and the type of clients they get (which are incredible).

  • Adam Wathan - Creator Series Part 2
    Feb 11 2019

This is the second episode in the Creators Series where I chat with content creators from across the web. Adam Wathan is no stranger to creating products that provide real value for web developers. With the recent release of his latest book, we chat about how he co-wrote with another author, testing your ideas before launching them, and how he got his start as a self-employed full stack developer.

We had a great chat all about creating content, Tailwind css, his podcast, and even his history with competitive weightlifting!

One thing that really stood out for me was how he likes to "work in public" in order to market his ideas. This idea of working on something out in the open can give you instant validation and help to shift the direction of your idea. Something I think I'll start doing more often!

Interesting links that we talk about and where to find Adam:

  • Scott Tolinski - Creator Series Part 1
    Jan 30 2019

I sat down with full-stack developer, Scott Tolinski. He's the creator of Level Up Tutorials and host of the web development podcast, Syntax.fm. In our chat we discover what led Scott to start making video tutorials and how he grew his YouTube following to over 250K. He tells me about his break dancing career (super interesting) and what he's working on as a full time, self employed content creator.

This is the first in a series of podcasts I call the "Creator Series" where I interview web professionals from around the globe who make a living on the products and content they create.

During my talk with Scott, we discuss how he got his start, dealing with negative comments on the web, growing a YouTube channel, converting his audience to paying members, break dancing and fitness, and my personal favorite, "Dad Strength".

    Enjoy!
