Repentance is in the pudding so to speak. This means that people that are truly repentant will have a change in behavior. If your spouse cheats and keeps doing so then they are not repentant, they are just sorry they got caught. However, a repentant spouse will do the work to restore the relationship and won’t leave the door open for further opportunity or doubt.
