Leading Yourself Before You Lead Others

John Armitage, founder of Embodymind and a well-being communicator with 20 years of experience as a therapist, mindfulness teacher and workshop facilitator, joins the Thrive Tribe to explore the connection between mindset, resilience and sustainable leadership. Drawing on years of work with individuals, teams and businesses, John offers founders practical tools for recognising when something needs to change and how to lead by example.

This session explores the core principles of mindset and resilience for business owners:

    • Recognising Mindset Issues: The first step to addressing a mindset issue is recognising it exists, often revealed through how someone talks to themselves when things go wrong. Distinguishing between pain that can be managed and suffering that becomes self-destructive helps founders identify when support is needed and from where, whether that is a business coach or a more personal therapeutic route.
    • The Ikigai Framework: This Japanese concept offers a simple but powerful North Star for reviewing a business, mapping what you enjoy, what you are good at, what sustains you and what contribution you make to others. Gaps across these areas highlight exactly where attention and strategic planning are needed.
    • Leadership Through Modelling: Strong leaders provide vision, challenge their teams constructively and model the behaviours they want to see, including how they look after their own well-being. This modelling is a growth lever in its own right, shaping culture as much as any policy or process.
    • A Coaching Approach to Team Mindset: When negativity shows up within a team, a coaching conversation that explores what went well, what was tricky and what could be done differently helps individuals take ownership of their own contribution. Building this kind of open, communicative environment supports operational autonomy across the whole team.
    • Resilience as Partnership: True resilience is not about toughening up alone. It is a partnership between an individual's own qualities and the resources and support available to them within their business and wider community.
    • The Power of the Reset: Short, simple breathing practices, even as little as three minutes, three times a day, activate the body's relaxation response and support sharper focus and greater productivity. Taking deliberate time out is a practical step that supports both personal well-being and operational efficiency.

John reflects honestly on his own journey, including periods of growth and contraction in his business and a current phase of readjustment and reframing. He credits genuine connections and relationships as the single biggest driver of growth over twenty years, and offers a simple piece of advice: take time out of the business regularly to check in on how you are feeling about it and where it is going.

How to Build Brand Authority, Win Trust and Convert Consistently

Hannah Worrall, founder of Your Brand Lab and a marketing and sales specialist with over 20 years of experience, joins the Thrive Tribe to cut through the noise around modern marketing. Drawing on her journey from old-school lead generation to building a profitable agency, Hannah delivers clear, strategic guidance on how founders can attract the right clients, build genuine authority and convert consistently without burning out.

This session explores the core principles of strategic marketing for founders and growing businesses:

    • Ideal Client Clarity: Getting granular about who you are trying to reach, why they buy and where they spend their time is the essential first step before investing effort in any channel. Without this foundation, marketing spend and energy are wasted.
    • Strategic Platform Focus: Choosing one platform aligned with your audience and committing to it fully is far more effective than spreading effort across every channel. This focused approach protects founder capacity and builds consistent momentum in line with a clear North Star.
    • The Marketing Funnel: Sustainable growth depends on guiding prospects through awareness, consideration and conversion in a structured way. Understanding this non-linear journey and placing the right touch points at each stage is the backbone of sound strategic planning.
    • Data as a Growth Lever: Tracking where leads and sales originate is one of the most powerful growth levers available to any founder. Without that data, effort cannot be directed effectively and patterns remain invisible.
    • Know, Like and Trust: Credibility is built over time through consistent content, genuine engagement, reviews and face-to-face relationships. This trust-building process is not separate from marketing strategy. It is central to it.
    • Brand and Strategy as Foundation: A strong brand identity and a flexible but grounded strategy will carry a business through uncertainty and growth alike. Strategy is what drives a business forward and it remains the bedrock of everything else.

Hannah speaks honestly about starting out young, needing income quickly and finding her way into a career through necessity rather than design. She reflects on leaving a head of marketing role in corporate to build something of her own and describes the early decision to focus on a single platform and use it simultaneously as a revenue stream and a market research tool. Her account is a grounded reminder that clarity of purpose and a willingness to start lean are as important as any tactic or tool.

  • Episode 001: The Foundations of Business Growth
    Apr 15 2026

Strategic leadership, operational autonomy, and the power of the "North Star."

In this inaugural episode, Mark and Lucy Pitfield draw on 25 years of experience as business partners to outline the fundamental principles of sustainable growth. Moving beyond basic theory, they discuss the transition from being a "bottleneck" founder to a strategic leader who empowers their team.

This session explores the core pillars of the Thrive Tribe philosophy:

    • Effective Leadership & Autonomy: The critical importance of delegating authority and avoiding the pitfalls of micromanagement to foster a high-performing team.
    • Strategic Planning Frameworks: How to utilize Vision Boards and the "North Star" concept to align daily actions with 10- and 25-year objectives.
    • Networking as a Growth Lever: Re-framing networking from a "sales" activity to a collaboration and referral engine.
    • Life Design & Flexibility: Designing a business structure that supports personal values and family commitments rather than adhering to a traditional corporate 9-to-5 model.
    • Future-Proofing with Technology: Leveraging AI and automation to enhance operational efficiency.

Mark and Lucy also share honest reflections on their own business "highs and lows," emphasizing that success is a result of consistent "hard work" and a genuine passion for your mission.
